I seem to be having great difficulty in using the dc8 and convair panels recently downloaded from HJG. There appear to be gauges missing for as I load the aircraft I get either no panel or gaugeless Cessna. What's going on?

Hi,
Make sure you followed all the instructions, and that you placed all the gauges in the gauges folder . Also make sure you have fssound.dll placed in the modules folder. And make sure the file panel.cfg in the aircraft panel folder has the correct reference to the panel.
Have nice flights!

Done that but I think the problem is in the download, cannot locate any gauges! Since posting my question I have downloaded an Iberia DC8 and used the panel out of that. I would still like to use the HJG panels with the sideviews etc.
What is the significance of the fssound.dll file? Please excuse my ignorance!

Hi Paul. I don't have the Convair panel but I recently installed the DC-8. Please note that there are two files to download. There is a core file which contains the gauges and then a model specific file for the rest of the panel. Follow the installation instructions carefully as the gauges go in the 'gauges' folder but the panel files go in the 'fsfsconv' folder within the FS9 aircraft folder. The panel.cfg file in each aircraft folder is then aliased to this location. Hope this helps

OK .... I'll get someone to check the CONVAIR PANEL just to be double sure, but, I don't think there's any problem there.
In the meantime as both Harerton and "SPEEDBIRD 591" have already indicated "you must" insrtall everything in the following manner
1. All individual gauge files must be installed inside your FS9 "GAUGES" folder.
2. Your panel may be installed inside either your FS aircraft itself .... or .... alternatively inside the FS9 "FSFSConv folder. If using the latter option you'll need to name your panel folder (e.g. "panel.convair", then alias your aircraft panel folder to the FSFSConv folder for it to display the panel .... in this case you'll need to change the PANEL.CFG data inside you aircraft panel folder to read as follows
"alias=FSFSConv\panel.convair"
"You must " (and this is absolutely essential) install the "SOUND.DLL" module inside your FS9 "MODULES" folder. Without this vital ingredient the panel and gauges may not display .... or you may encounter other problems with the panel.
"You must" then also locate the "FS9.CFG" file and add the follwing data entry to it
[OLDMODULES] FSSound.dll=1
"You must" take care to write this data entry (note the upper and lower case font here) "precisely as it appears above" .... or it simply won't work and you'll experience difficulties.
Have another go and see how you get along.
In the meantime the contents of the CONVAIR PANEL folder will be rechecked .... just to be sure.

Paul I just downloaded the Convair panel and the gauges etc are all there. I can only assume you are not installing them correctly?? As a test try this 1: unzip the file to the desktop, you will have a folder called "HJG CV-880 Panel v1" Open this folder and you will see one folder two text files and a file called Panel. 2: Rename the folder called "panel.hjg_cv-880" to "Panel" (without the speech marks) Move this complete folder now called panel into your CV990 aircraft folder you overwrite the panel folder that already sits there. 3: Follow Mark's instruction "You must" then also locate the "FS9.CFG" file and add the follwing data entry to it
[OLDMODULES] FSSound.dll=1You then should have the job done, as you will be using this panel for the 990 it is not duplicated as under the new texture only additions you only have one 990 aircraft folder

You'll find it in:
C:\Documents and Settings\XXX\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9
... where XXX is the Windows user name you are logged in as.
However, this directory and the files in it are often hidden, so even a search of the entire drive may not show it.
Starting with your C:\Documents and Settings folder, right-click and select Properties. At the bottom of the General tab, ensure that the 'Hidden' checkbox is unchecked. Now work your way down through the lower level folders, and you should eventually find the folder and fs9.cfg file.
Regards,
Jim
