AIR EUROPE/NORWAY B737-33A LN-MOR (1990)
AIR EUROPE/UK B737-3S3 G-BMTG (1990)
AIR EUROPE/UK B737-4S3 G-BPKE (1990)
AIR EUROPE was a British charter airline established during 1978 .... under the INTER EUROPEAN AIRWAYS banner .... and which became AIR EUROPE during 1979 (owned by INTERNATIONAL LEISURE GROUP). It commenced operations on May 4th 1979, operating from its London/Gatwick base, using 3 factory fresh B737-200 aircraft.
During late 1979 the airline also commenced operations out Manchester .... followed by Cardiff during 1983.
Undercutting its competitors AIR EUROPE became the first UK based charter airline to become profitable within its first year of operations .... and throughout the 1980's grew rapidly to become UK's 2nd largest package tour operator .... superseded only by BRITANNIA AIRWAYS.
The airline acquired B757-200 aircraft during 1982 .... followed by B737-300's during 1987 .... then B737-400's and F-100's from 1989.
When the FAA extended ETOPS operations (for twin-engined aircraft) to 120 minutes .... this suddenly benefitted AIR EUROPE to the extent (upon ETOPS modification) its B757's could then undertake trans-Atlantic charter flights to the US east coast, the Caribbean, and to both Central and South American ports, as well as Asia too. AIR EUROPE ultimately became the first UK based charter operator to service Orlando, Florida, USA, from 1989 .... using B757-200 aircraft.
During the mid 1980's the airline also established itself as an aircraft leaser .... in regard to both day-to-day and financial leasing .... as well as long term swapping of additional aircraft capacity among other UK and foreign based operators.
During 1989 AIR EUROPE leased a B747-100 from TOWER AIR .... to operate increased capacity services to Acapulco, Bangkok, Barbados, and Orlando.
Further expansion and diversification during the late 1980's saw the airline acquire stakes in AIR ESPANA, GUERNSEY AIRLINES, NURNBERGER FLUGDIENST, and NORWAY AIRLINES .... and its commencement of increased frequency services out of London/Gatwick .... as well as low frequency-scheduled operations over short-haul European trunk routes as well .... although the airline expansion into scheduled type operations became less successful.
AIR EUROPE had by the late 1980's become the largest airline based at London/Gatwick.
By the late 1980's .... and confident in its future .... the airline had opted to become launch customer for the Rolls-Royce Trent-powered MD-11 with an order for 6 aircraft .... slotted for delivery from 1993.
During this period it also had outstanding orders for an additional 22 B757-200's, 8 B737-400's, and 11 F-100's, as well as firm orders for up to 40 A320-200's .... slotted for delivery from 1995.
However .... an unforeseen and major downturn in traffic due to a recession within the UK, under-capitalization (with the increased cost of lending/borrowing), an unsound financial structure, financial over-extension, lack of ownership of any significant assets, a high-risk business strategy .... against the background of the looming first Gulf war during 1990 .... all conspired to result in ILG suddenly suffering heavy financial losses and a mounting debt crisis from 1989 .... and which ultimately forced AIR EUROPE to declare bankruptcy and cease operations on March 8th 1991.
AIR MADAGASCAR B737-3Q8 5R-MFH (2008)
Formed as MADAIR during 1947 .... and assisted by TRANSPORTS AERIENS INTERCONTINENTAUX of France .... the airline was renamed AIR MADAGASCAR on October 14th 1962.
During its early development years .... between the 1950's and 1960's .... the airline operated DC-3, DC-4, DC-7, DH-89 DRAGON RAPIDE, DHC-6 TWIN OTTER, NORD 262, and PIPER aircraft.
It entered the jet age during 1964 with an AIR FRANCE B707-320 (leased from AIR FRANCE .... and later a DC-8-33 (leased from TAI) and which enabled the airline to service Paris, France .... and which were followed by B737-200's from 1970.
During 1979 AIR MADAGASCAR acquired its first wide-body jetliner .... in the form of the B747-200B SUD.
It acquired HS-748 turboprops from 1980 .... then ATR-42 turboprops from 1986.
The B737-300 was added during 1994 .... followed by the B767-200, B767-300ER, and briefly by a B777-200ER from 1999 .... and finally 2 A340-300's (leased from AIR FRANCE) since 2012.
From its Antananarivo base AIR MADAGASCAR services some 17 destinations throughout Madgascar .... and to Africa, Asia, and the European continent. The airline also participates in code share agreements with AIR AUSTRAL, AIR MAURITIUS, ETIHAD AIRWAYS, and THAI AIRWAYS INTERNATIONAL.

BMI BABY was a wholly owned and low cost subsidiary of London/Heathrow based BRITISH MIDLAND INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES
It was founded during January 2002 and commenced operations on June 22nd 2002 .... operating on a restricted licence which enabled it to fly PAX, freight, and mail on aircraft with in excess of 20 seats capacity.
INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES GROUP took over BMI during April 2012, and during May 2012 announced its intention to shut down the airlines BMI BABY subsidiary, which operated its last flight from Malaga to East Midlands on September 9th 2012 and was merged into BMI AIRLINES.
BMI BABY operated a fleet of 12 B737-300's and 2 B737-500's.
From its Birmingham and East Midlands bases the airline operated scheduled services to the Channel Islands (Jersey), Croatia (Dubrovnik), the Czech Republic (Pragda), France (Nice, and Perpignan), Italy (Rome, and Venice), Portugal (Faro), Spain (Alicante, Barcelona, Malaga, Manorca, Murcia, and Palma De Mallorca, UK (Birmigngham, Nottingham, Leicester, and Darby .... and seasonal services to Gibralter, Italy (Alghero, Naples, and Verona), Malta, Portugal (Lisbon), Spain (Almeria, Ibiza).
NORWAY AIRLINES B737-33A LN-NOS (1989)
NORWAY AIRLINES/AIR EUROPE B737-33A LN-NOR (1991)
NORWAY AIRLINES was established on April 2nd 1987 and commenced operations during February 1988.
The airlines was based at Tananger .... and later Fornebu .... in Norway.
During what became a "complicated" operational history" the airline operated 2 B737-300's (later reduced to a single aircraft) between 1988 and 1992 .... then a single MD-83 and MD-87 aircraft leased from TRANSWEDE AIRLINES from 1992.
It operated scheduled services between both Oslo and Fornebu (Norway) to London/Gatwick (UK) .... whilst also operating charter services to, and from, popular Mediterranean tourist destinations on behalf of SUN TOURS (and which constituted some 60% of the airlines business), but, whom collapsed during May 1988.
The airlines aircraft then operated on behalf of BRITANNIA AIRWAYS until November 1988 .... then with AIR EUROPE from May 15th 1989 on London/Stockholm/Copenhagen and then London/Rome/Gibraltar/Malta services and which saw its B737-300 supporting "AIR EUROPE" titles over basic NORWAY AIRLINES livery.
During 1990 NORWAY AIRLINES sought authorization to operate services to Penang (Malaysia) using B757-200 aircraft, but, this application was declined by the Norwegian MOT (along with other route solicitations too) .... in order to protect the interests of SAS.
The airline won a contract to fly personnel charters on behalf of the Norwegian Armed Forces from April 1991 .... and a further contract to fly Oslo/Stockholm, and Copenhagen/London charters on behalf of GULLIVERS REISER, and charters to tourist destinations within Greece, Spain, Portugal and Turkey.
AIR EUROPE collapsed and ceased operations from March 8th 1991 .... and which resulted in NORWAY AIRLINES being grounded for a period. This forced the airline to lease its aircraft externally in order to operate its contracted military charters until April 28th 1991 when the airline was liberated from the imposition of the AIR EUROPE collapse. A later change in government policy then resulted in the airline to losing its military contracts from April 1992.
Political, commercial, and corporate hindrances frustrated NORWAY AIRLINES throughout its almost 5 years of operations .... to the extent that the airline never realized an operating profit.
The airline voluntarily filed for bankruptcy on October 15th 1992 .... and ceased operations the following day .... citing "unacceptable profitability combined with unwillingness of the Norwegian authorities to grant the airline concessions" being the reason/s behind the crisis that ultimately forced the airlines closure.
TRANSBRASIL B737-3YO PT-TEF (1996)
TRANSBRASIL B737-4YO PT-TEL (1989)
TRANSBRASIL B737-4YO PT-TEL (1996)
TRANSBRASIL AIRLINES was founded as SADIA TRASPORTES AEREOS on January 5th 1955 .... and commenced operations on March 16th 1956.
The airline was renamed TRANSBRASIL LINEAS AEREAS on September 17th 1972.
It progressed from DC-3 and C-46 COMMANDO propliners during the 1950's and 60's .... to HP DART HERALD turboprops from 1968 .... and which were replaced by EMB-110 BANDEIRANTE's from 1973.
The airline entered the pure jet age with BAC ONE-ELEVEN's from 1970 .... and which were replaced by B727-100's from 1974 .... and which were accompanied by both PAX and freight configured B707-320C's during the 1980's.
TRANSBRASIL entered the wide-body era with B767-200's from 1989 .... and also acquired B737-300's and -400's during the 1990's.
Domestic services were operated to most Brasilian cities .... with both scheduled and charter type international sercices being operated to
Miami, Orlando, New York, Washington DC (in the USA, Buenos Aires (Argentina), Vienna (Austria), Amsterdam (Holland), London (UK) and Beijing (China).
During 1994 a regional subsidiary airline was established .... as INTERBRASIL ..... and which commenced services from July 9th 1995.
Despite the substantial growth of TRANSBRASIL's market share from the 1980's the airline also began to suffer financial and managerial imposed difficulties .... as well severe competition on both its domestic and international routes.
By 2001, and despite a number of government loans, TRANSBRASIL was beginning to amass alarming debt .... to the extent SHELL PETROLEUM finally refused to provide fuel to the airline until payment had been effected .... forcing the airline to be grounded and then ceasing operations from December 3rd 2001 amid declarations of bankruptcy.
As recently as 2009 the legality of the airlines bankruptcy was still being argued/investigated amid allegations of corruption/criminal actions by management which hastened the airlines demise ... but which were invalidated by the Supreme Court of Brasil during 2010.

A period of major service disruptions occurred during July 1011 prompting an investigation by Brazils regulatory civil aviation body .... and on August 2nd 2011 a contract was signed between GOL and VARIG to acquire the airline. It was at this time intended that each would continue to operate idependently .... however .... WEBJET abruptly ceased operations on November 23rd 2012 and all of its services were from then incorporated into GOL.

WEBJET LINHAS AEREAS B737-341 PR-WJA (2007)
WEBJET LINHAS AEREAS B737-33A PR-WJK (2010)
WEBJET LINHAS AEREAS was a Brazilian airline .... founded during 2004 and which commenced on July 12th 2005.
From its Rio de Janeiro base the airline provided low-cost economy class services to Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Cuiaba, Curitiba, Florianópolis, Fortaleza, Foz do Iguaçu, Goiânia, Maceió, Natal, Navegantes, Porto Alegre, Porto Seguro, Recife,
Ribeirão Preto, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador da Bahia, São Paulo, and Uberlândia.
It passed through a succession of owners and managements between 2006 and 2010 .... including the its sale to CVC VIAGENS (Brazils larges tour operator whom sought to reduce dependence on the countries mainstream domestic carriers) during 2007.
WEBJET LINHAS AEREAS operated a fleet of some 23 B737-300's and 6 B737-800's prior to its integration into GOL
I suspect Paul may have further textures he wishes to add later (hence the title of this particular thread) .... so .... "watch this space" for updates
