Just curious....has anyone purchased the Just Flight DC-8.
If yes, what do you think of the simulation??

Yes I have it and I love it. Great immersion and flies really well. The external model is stunning and the VC is spot on. Really feels like you are there. I like the engine sounds and little animation details like main wheel steering. Just a couple of issues though, they have had problems with the HSI just gobbling up frame rates but have a work around in place until they finally provide a definitive patch. The autopilot tends to give people a pain in the posterior and I must admit, I think there is something amiss there. The fuel pumps and cross feeds don’t work as they do on the real plane and most importantly, there are hardly any repaints.
But when it all boils down to it, I still tend to fly the HJG ones 99% of the time.
Cheers,
Nathan.

Thank you Nathan for your reply. I really appreciate your comments.
I have been contemplating on purchasing this for some time now, so I think I will go ahead with it.
Cheers, Herman

The addon texture packs are a must, but I would wait until they come on special. Also, if you decided to use the fps friendly version, there is an error in the panel.cfg . I came up with a fix for it and posted it on their forum. I’m not sure if the fix was included in their latest update or not. Link to fixCheers, Nathan.

OK thanks Nathan and Aharon.
Well I went ahead with ordering the DC-8 version -10 to -40, as it was only 29.95 for the downloadable version. There is also the DC-8 series 50 to 70 available.
As with Nathan, I have used the HJG DC-8's since 2005, so I figured it would not be disrespectful to try the payware version.
I will now install the aircraft and do some flights and report back. Too bad that it does not come in a FS9 version. Now I will have to populate FSX with some classic AI Traffic.
Nathan....I don't know what you meant by "Bump".
Cheers; Herman

Great news Herman, I know you will enjoy it too. I haven’t been active over at the Just Flight forum so my fix was quite a long way back in the posts. I used “Bump” to quite literally bump it back up to the front of the forum. It save people having to look too far back for the fix. It also is used if you haven’t got a reply from someone as it will send them a reminder email that someone is still waiting for help.
Cheers,
Nathan.

Somewhere in here I did a review of that bird a while back. The model is nice.....for me thats about it. Very heavy on the frame rates unless you have a top line computer and graphics card. FDE is not great and the textures other than the fuselage leave something to be desired. I also hate tubeliners with interiors modeled. Waste of polygons and framerates.

I had the 50 to 70 series package for a short time and returned it.
1. The -61 and -63 models, for some reason, made the sim unusable (1 to 3 FPS) 2. The remaining models lowered my framerate by 5 FPS. Not good when flying into busy airports. 3. I didn't find the performance of a -55 at MTOW convincing (too much power) 4. All models were missing the needles on the flap and hydraulic brake pressure gauges.
JustFlight's support said that the copy protection scheme could be a cause for items 1,2 and 4 and that it does not like anti virus software. I was to disable it when using the DC-8 and that's where I drew the line. Fortunately, JF's support is excellent and converting purchases into points is always a possibility.
I don't have a problem jumping through one or two hoops to get an add-on to run initially, but bending FSX to the requirements of a single add-on, by lowering settings or disabling protection software, are absolute no-go items.
YMMV, of course.
