So I must have had a digital hiccup somewhere where a bit or byte got corrupted. Suddenly I can't save any edits to any cfg files without going into the permissions for each specific file. Very annoying Notepad opens the file, I edit, then when I go to save I get an "access denied" message. If I right click on the cfg file and edit the permissions for all users then I can do a save, BUT I have to do this with every cfg file. The read/write attributes on the files are fine. So computer gurus: how can restore globally permission to have total control of read/write on all the cfg files?? Thanks in advance. Mike

I always run administrator's rights when opening notepad software and any cfg.
I hover my mouse over notepad's icon and rightclick to pull down menu to pick run as administrator to open notepad and then any cfg file to add or edit info.

Mike .... if I'm understanding you predicament correctly ....
Right Click on the NOTEPAD/CFG .... then left click on "PROPERTIES" option .... then check the the "READ ONLY" box is "UNCHECKED".
If it appears "CHECKED" then "UNCHECK" it .... and select "SAVE".
I have known this to inexplicably happen to a CFG file in the past .... but .... I can't advise in regard to why this should happen globally/to every CFG or NOTEPAD you have (if that's the case), but, if this's the case then there will be an easy way to undo what's happened .... and preferably without using the Restore Point option too.
Just need someone to advise on the best procedure to undo what may have been done, but, my advice should help you circumvent this issue on a case by case/file by file basis .... I think.
