Hi There,
You guys are really incredible. For over a year now I've been looking for an INS that remembers it's settings between sessions. I know CIVA is currently working on it,but you guys already did it in the 707 INS.I am speechless! From now on ,time pressed people like me can fly the way they did in the 60's and 70's,and not have to use GPS (ugh) or FMC (triple ugh). Thanks a lot guys, you are the greatest!Who isresponsible for this little miracle?Don't be shy.I LOVE you! From now on,time pressed people who love to fly long haul are saved.Thank you ,thank you, thank you, thank you! PS:how does one export this little miracle to other planes?

Our B707 panels are the exclusive creation of George CARTY.
Drop him a "PM" if you care to. I'm sure he'd appreciate your appprecition of his work.

Is it possible to enter new waypoints during flight, when the flight has more than 25 waypoints?

Hi all,
I am just getting familiar with the new 707 panels created by George Carty. Since I will be in the era of navigation by INS, is there any "entry level" user friendly "paint by the number" instructions on how to navigate by INS? The only instructions in the panel manual is the basic description of what mode functions are on the INS control head and their usage.
I have no idea where to look to determine the "way points" that will chart my course from point A to point B. Do you use the flight planner in FS09 to determine way points? If so how is that accomplished? After that is determined, how does one program the way points into the INS and etc.? Until I learn this form of navigation, I will be limited to VOR which is a bit difficult if one flies across the pond in these great 707's.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. For now, I must continue to use either Paul Golding's (sorry I cheated and added the KLN90b GPS) or Harerton's 707 panel. Both are great panels but seem to need some FS09 retrofits.
Thanks,
Ray Mengel Spokane, WA

So far as I'm aware .... there's no tutorial available for the use of that INS.
You raise an interesting point though .... in that maybe some form of tutorial needs to be prepared by someone who competently understands its use, and is able to explain things easily, and has time to available to knock something together.

Oops, writing a program which interfaces with the FS9 flight planner may need doing. If I were using the INS I'd probably just look up co-ordinates in an atlas...

Generally the flight planning program shows each waypoint coordinate.

Question: If I use FSNav, does it automatically put my waypoints into the INS?

No it doesn't - I never considered interfacing with existing waypoint navigation systems when writing the INS code.

That's odd; when I have used FSNav in the past, it seems to have put NavPoints into it. Now, I've not made it for sure if these are the same NavPoints in FSNav, but I'll try and check on this. What does the INS interface with in regards to the panel/aircraft?

Hi all,
Mark: If I remember correctly, was there not a separate "Message Board" on the old HJG Forum site dedicated to the Delco INS? If so, is anything like that still available that could help as a INS tutorial?
George: Overall, your panel is a great addition and thank you for making it available to match the different types of 707/720 available at this site. Did you put a "default" flight plan into the INS for a London-JFK flight? If so, then if you have the time, could you make a brief explanation on how to program the INS available as an addition to your panel manual? Again, I would really like to use your panel for oversea flights. At this time I can only use it for overland flights by using the FS09 plight planner and developing a flight plan using high altitude VOR.
Harerton: You noted the flight planner, I am assuming FS09, shows the way points coordinates. Do you print them out and then program the INS accordingly?
Sorry for so many questions; I am just trying to find out or learn how to use the INS available in the 707 panel provided by George. I appreciate all comments and any help regarding this.
To any one out there that might be reading this thread: Just out of plain curiosity, am I the only one that does not know how to navigate via INS? If I am, then please ignore my inquiries. I can continue to use the other two panels I mentioned previously. If I am not, then maybe we can pool helpful information that can make learning this form of navigation possible for people like me.
Thanks,

Ray,
I plan my flights using FSBuild and also the routefinder site. Both give flightplans with the coordinates. I'm not sure you can get them directly with FS9 flightplanner but if you manage how to show the GPS with the panel you're using then you can see all the coordinates there.
And don't wory, I also don't use the INS myself as I normally do short flights. But I will learn howto use it. Maybe the fact that we have to insert all the waypoints manually with the mouse may discourage some people to use it.
George: the idea of interfacing it with FS9 plans is really a time saver. But if possible, you could insert the possibility of using the numeric keyboard to inserts the waypoints.
But we are lucky, as the real thing was worse because it only handled 9 waypoints in his memory. The crew had to keep adding them during the flight!

Hi Harerton,
Thanks for your reply regarding my question. I am not familar with either FSBuild or the routefinder site. Is FSBuild an addon?
I am glad that I am not the only one that does not know how to use or use the INS. Unfortunately getting the coordinates to show up on the GPS will not work with George's new 707 panels since he does not include the GPS with them. The only thing I can do is to use the GPS from another panel, then somehow copy them over to the INS control head in the 707 panel.
It sounds like I will have to do the same as you--short haul flights when using George's panel. I will then use either your 707 panel or Paul Golding's panel for long haul over the pond flights until I can learn how to use the INS for primary navigation.
Finally, all of this makes me have a greater appreciation of pilots that navigated pre-GPS and FMC era.
Thanks,

"YES" .... that's right .... it was .... when the old HJG was hosted on the SIMUFLY website.
So far as I'm aware, SIMUFLY is gone now, but, I think the CIVA (or DELCO CAROUSEL) INS was uploaded to either AVSIM or FLIGHTSIM libraries about 1 year ago .... and I think it did contain a tutorial.
I don't know if it's still avaiulable. I will check for you.
If it is I'll edit the filename into this post .... later on.
