Did you put a "default" flight plan into the INS for a London-JFK flight? If so, then if you have the time, could you make a brief explanation on how to program the INS available as an addition to your panel manual? It's already in the panel manual! Open it up, follow the link "Pedestal", then scroll to the bottom of the page...

Ray, FSBuild is an addon just like FSNav. The routefinder site is here: rfinder.asalink.net/free/It's a great site. But it is good practice to check the route on a flight planning software map - you can use FS own planner - because some times strange things happen... but most of the times the generated plan is right. And it gives all the coordinates. Well, I would not use my panel from now on, because the gauges on the new panel are much more accured. George programed them to reflect each different engine version.

Knowing that the INS comes preloaded for London-New York-London, I took off from Heathrow, set the autopilot to INS, and it started tracking the path to New York. No problem!
I haven't completed the flight yet (I saved it), but I was wondering: When I'm ready to return from New York to London, what do I have to do with the INS to ensure it will start at the appropriate waypoint? Load flight plan 2 ([SET][2][ENTER])?
And if that's the case, then what is in flight plan 3? Is it just an empty slot waiting to be programmed?
Regards,
Jim

By reading the manual, I understand fp 1, 2 and 3 correspond to custom plans we can save. The default plan can not be deleted.

Yes, but the manual says:
To restore the default London-New York-London flight plan, press [SET][ENTER]
Now after I do that, I assume the following:
- Pressing [SET][1][ENTER] will load the London-New York waypoints - Pressing [SET][2][ENTER] will load the New York-London waypoints - Pressing [SET][3][ENTER] will load an empty flightplan?
Is this assumption correct?
I guess I can just try it tonight and report my findings.
Regards,
Jim

OK, I've figured out the default London/New York/London INS settings.
When you reset the INS by pressing [SET][ENTER], the 25 waypoints loaded represent both legs of the trip. Waypoints 1 through 14 are the London to New York Leg, and Waypoints 15 through 25 are New York to London.
If starting in London, set the INS selector switch to 'WPT' and ensure that waypoint 01 is shown. If not, then press WPT INC to scroll upward through the waypoints until you get back to 01 (after 25 it will start over at 01).
If starting in New York, set the INS selector switch to 'WPT' and ensure that waypoint 15 is shown. If not, then press WPT INC to scroll through the waypoints until you get back to 15.
So the waypoint shown in WPT mode is the waypoint the autopilot will try to fly to. When you reach that waypoint, the waypoint will increment automatically to the next number.
I tested this out at both ends, and it works perfectly.
Regards,
Jim
