On a recent trip back home, I found the first SD card that I got for my camera in 2008, and inspired by Peter and Mark's recent posts of real-world aircraft photos, I thought I'd share some of them here as well. These date from 2008 to 2011, and for the most part I tried to focus on the unusual and historic stuff that came through Omaha during that time (after all, it's in the name of the site!). There are plenty more photos from various trips I've taken, and I may post those by respective airport in the future.
March 2008
Northwest Airlink opb Mesaba CRJ-900 N916XJ. These were pretty new in service at the time, and I think this one was only about two months old.
Frontier normally flew A319s into Omaha 4-5 times a day, but for stretch from late 2007 into mid-2008, it was downgraded to ERJ-170s flown by Republic. I believe this one was named Dylan the Mule Deer.
May 2008
N903ME operating Midwest 53 slows down on arrival from Washington DC, and would fly me to Milwaukee as flight 156 shortly after. Still miss these guys.
February 2009
On days when we didn't have anything else to do, I could usually convince my mom to take me to the airport for an hour or two to watch planes, and I think that's what we were doing that day! CRJ-440 N8771A was coming in from Detroit.
FedEx A300s were, and I believe still are, the largest planes regularly scheduled into OMA.
737-322 N372UA on its way to Denver.
Continental 737-700 arriving from Houston. These weren't terribly common, as the majority of CO flights into Omaha were on ERJ-145s.
Midwest in its hospice stage...the ERJs fine to fly on, but the SkyWest CRJ-200s that came along soon after were just sad. N826MD in the background is now one of Republic's house-liveried aircraft.
American's MD-80s have been a staple in Omaha as long as I can remember, and I was pleased to see that they'll be there right up to the end (going off of the recently-posted retirement schedule).
May 2009
My first time seeing a Delta-painted DC-9-50. Sadly it was going to Memphis, while I got a boring A320 to MSP (although it was also in the Delta livery!).
August 2009
Plenty of classics still floating around as well! This one was one of the final ones to leave service with Delta in January 2014.
February 2010
2009-10 was a snowy winter in Omaha, as N812HK demonstrates.
Headed to a much warmer locale! This one was going to Phoenix, as the US Airways and America West 737 fleets never mixed following their merger.
Republic was a bit of a mess between 2009 and 2017, and there were quite a few unmarked planes in the fleet at the time. Believe N868RW was operated on the Shuttle America side when
I took this, but when I flew on it in the spring of 2011, it had a Republic Airlines sticker on it. The joys of US regional operations!
AirTran had launched service to Milwaukee not long ago, which was operated by these house-branded CRJ-200s. After the contract was cancelled, they stayed painted this way and continue in service among all of OO's partners.
September 2010
To further the mess that was made of Republic and Frontier's short, bizarre marriage, ERJ-145s were operated by Chautauqua for a short time out of Milwaukee to replace the SkyWest CRJs previously operated for Midwest. This was right around the time they were introduced, and this was N270SK's second or third day in service in these colors.
By this point, American's Chicago services had been relegated to American Eagle ERJs for about a decade, mostly with the original-length 145. On this day, one of the flights was swapped to the much-rarer ERJ-140.
November 2010
As the titles say, United added some stickers to N542UA to commemorate the final season of the Oprah Winfrey Show. United 757s were still semi-regulars in Omaha, and the largest passenger planes to routinely come through.
December 2010
An unexpected visitor, this Sky King 737-200 came to town with somebody that was playing a concert, though I can't remember who it might've been.
March 2011
By now, all of Frontier's Omaha services had been switched to regional partners; the ERJ-190s usually flew DEN-OMA-DCA and vice versa, while the -145s flew strictly to and from Milwaukee.
N668CA pulls into the gate arriving from Salt Lake City before taking me along for its return trip. Funnily enough, on the approach we flew directly over the city I live in now.
Hope you enjoy these!
