Two days ago after a flight I had a CTD. OK happens occasionally. Today went to do a flight and my yoke and pedals are non-functioning. I checked with the CH manager and device controller in windows. Windows sees the yoke and pedals, and I can perform a calibration on them and they work fine. I go into FS9, and go to settings and the joystick is not enabled. OK, I enable the joystick and NOTHING! FS still does not recognize any controller. All those settings greyed out. So next, I deleted the fs.cfg and had FS rebuild the cfg (ugh...have to redo all settings etc). Again after rebuild, I go into settings, enable joystick, and go to select type....nothing...no options..all greyed out. FS just refuses to recognize any controller exists. I have a backup cfg from about a year ago, but I don't know how to get FS to take that as the cfg as it's a txt file. Just renaming it doesn't seem to make it a cfg file. Any ideas on that??? Or any ideas in general beyond a complete reinstall Mike

Quick update: I was able to put in a cfg from a few weeks ago from a restore point. But, FS still does not recognize that any controller is available. Updated drivers from CH and the yoke/pedals work fine within Windows (7). sigh........

Just reading your report Mike ....
Have you tried using another port .... to connect your device ?
I'm "speculating" (of course) that your scenario may not be CFG or calibration related, but rather, a failed port .... "possibly".

Yup USB ports are notorious for failing. The new usb 4's are much better.

I was chatting with Mike the other day about this .... and I think he's got it all sorted out now. My USB port suggestion seemed a good proposal at the time .... but .... I understand it wasn't "the cause". Maybe Mike can post his verdict later .... if he wishes. It may assist someone else in the future Mark C AKL/NZ

Yep, it was resolved by two things: using a restore point FS.cfg, and most importantly dropping in a backup FS.exe. The USB port was never an issue as my CH yoke and pedals were working fine within Windows. I could use the CH manager and do a calibration....all axes would move. It was only within FS I had a problem. Prior to this problem I had a CTD using FS. I usually backup all my FS system twice a year. So I just overwrote the FS.exe file from my backup which saves having to do a reinstall. Apparently the CTD may have caused a bad section of the FS.exe.
As I mentioned to Mark, these old computers weakest point seems to be the mechanical hard drives. I was thinking about going to a SSD a few years ago but now I'm looking toward a new computer for running MS2020, which I will be sure has a SSD.
