this thread is for forum members to post their aviation related stories.
I'll start with one of mine.
1-The Worst wait at an airport. Ever.
me and some friends wanted to go to Margarita Island in Venezuela, we decided that we would go on the same flights.
We flew London-New York with British airways in a 747, then New York-Miami with Sprit in an A320 I think and to Maracaibo with Estelar in an 737-300 (that airline would save the day for us shortly after) when in Maracaibo, we stayed there a couple nights to visit some friends. (we had 4 hours a day without electrical power) the night of the flight was absolutely HORRIBLE. And that's when delay 1 out of 2 happened.
At 5:30 pm we arrived at La Chinita International Airport to check in and stuff, we ate "tequeños" at the dining area, I did some plane spotting outside and met a few people there, the flight was supposed to take off at 7:00pm, when the time arrives, we get to the counter to ask what happened, they told us the flight was delayed an hour and a half (8:30pm) we began chatting and when the time came, they told us that the flight would depart at 9:30pm, it's 10:30 and nothing happens, turns out, the plane (YV502T) had broken down and the flight would be delayed indefinitely, at 11:00pm we wave the Conviasa Passengers goodbye as they depart to Margarita.
it's 12:30 and we're all basically sleeping atop each other (we were 2 guys and 3 women, imagine how awkward that was) at 12:40 they wake us up and tell us that they've chartered a plane (Estelar's YV2722 I think) but that it would not arrive until 1:30am, we were pissed but bought stuff from the only store that was open, a donut shop, we bought 3 donuts each. (Cecil paid for all of them for some reason) and at 1:10am we are told that we would depart at 2:00am so we slept for twenty something minutes until we woke up and boarded the plane the process was LOOOOONG so we departed at two thirty something. The flight was mostly the friend next to me (Juan, born in Spain but came to the UK for some reason) awkwardly staring at the flight attendant and vice versa, me looking through the window, and two other friends were playing uno I think, and the other one was doing some weird stuff.
we finally arrived at the airport at
4:12 (probably not precise as I booted up the phone after getting out of the plane)
we stayed at the beautiful island for four nights and the fifth, well, we spent it at the airport.
this time almost nothing was open apart from a restaurant and a couple shops, so we bought some soda (coke I think) (except Jahd, yup that's a name, he bought Pepsi because it was cheaper at a nearby shop) and we were told that the plane wouldn't depart until 10:00pm because of technical issues. Yup. That's what they said. (It was 9:00pm I think, I didn't know the time because my phone was charging) so later the flight was postponed indefinitely. Bloody hell. We slept a couple hours until we began socializing with the other passengers in the flight. I booted up my phone and saw it was 12:00pm, me and two other friends bought some beer because we knew this was going to be long.
we drink some booze while talking, fall asleep after an hour or so, sleep for another forty-something minutes until we were woken up by a staff member, we boarded the flight, the plane was YV502T, the world's fifth oldest plane in commercial service at the time (2019) the flight was horrible, lots of shaking.
we arrive at Maracaibo and almost immediately fly to Miami and go back to London.
TL;DR: we get stuck at the airport for 5+ hours in the span of a week.
(sorry if it's too long)
