"WELCOME" folks .... to this first and "LARGEST EVER" HJG website update for the 2021 year and which is also in celebration of the groups "21ST ANNIVERSARY". This release is composed of some 163 "NEW" textures for the virtual B707, B717-200, B727, B737, C-135, DC-9, DC-10, L-1011 TRISTAR, MD-80, and MD-90 flight lines hosted by HJG .... and also includes some 23 new and upgraded aircraft base pack and panel/gauges files, along with 9 new sound packs for these simulations .... all resulting in a combined release of some 186 files "in total".

As this release is considerably larger than any previously undertaken by HJG, the following "Orientation Notes" are more comprehensive than usual but which is in the better interests of everyone's knowledge and clearer understanding of everything ..... therefore the following 6 "Virtual NOTAM's" are applicable to the content of this release ....


1. As is the case with all B727-200 textures released "since October 2015" (only) .... those featured within this website update already have the necessary 3D model assignments edited into their supporting FLTSIM.XX/TEXTURE data (along with the required engine type/aircraft type base pack/model assignments information too) .... and each of these textures have also been updated with their "D" and "DL" texture BMP files as well.

PLEASE NOTE: All B727-200 textures released "prior to October 2015" require 3D model assignments being "manually edited" into their supporting FLTSIM.XX/TEXTURE data (failure to do this will absolutely ensure these subjects aren't recognized or displayed by FS). In the case of these other subjects (only) .... the necessary/recommended engine type/aircraft type base pack/model assignments are stated beside each B727-200 subject listed within the "B727-200, -200F, -200 ADV, -200F ADV, -200 ADV RE SUPER 27, -200F RE SUPER 27, -200 ADV WL, and -200F ADV WL sections of our following linked forum based "B727 TEXTURE INVENTORY" ....

Apply the 3D model file names recommended within these listings to the MODEL= data line within the FLTSIM.XX/TEXTURE data for each of these other textures .... and also .... manually add/copy & paste both the additional "D" and "DL" texture BMP's (contained within the "ADDITIONAL TEXTURES B727-200" folder inside each B727-200 aircraft base pack) to the texture folder for each "pre October 2015" (only) released B727-200 texture.

It's all "very simple"

This "minor imposition" couldn't be avoided back in 2015. It's what happens when 3D model edits are applied "long after" a substantial number of textures for any aircraft subject have already been released. HJG can't easilly download, edit, and then re-upload, every single "pre-October 2015" released B727 texture file .... so .... it needs to impose this simple editing task upon the end user .... aided by our own advice if necessary. If anyone's still not clear and experiences a problem or otherwise requires assistance, then, post accordingly on our "BOEING SUPPORT" forum page .... and the matter wil be taken up there.

This above V-NOTAM has been posted many times previously .... we know that The reason it's being repeated now (and will be repeated again in the future too) is simply for the benefit of those "NEW" to HJG whom likely aren't aware of this particular detail


2. The "UPDATED" B717-200 aircraft base pack is now "V1.13".

The "UPDATED" MD-80 and MD-90 aircraft base packs are now each "V1.3".

These updated aircraft base packs each contain FDE revisions (by Mike MONCE and myself) which resolve a number of long-standing performance related issues associated with these simulations. Specific information cencerning these edits may be reviewed per the following linked forum thread ....

PLEASE NOTE: All original B717-200, MD-80, and MD-90 SERIES aircraft base packs must now be "DELETED" and replaced with these "UPDATED" file versions. All textures associated with each original base pack file can still be used with these latest aircraft base packs (without any problem/s at all) .... along with their supporting FLIGHTSIM.XX/CFG based texture data too. These "UPDATED" aircraft base packs "MUST" also be used in conjunction with our "NEW" MD-80 sound packs too.

PLEASE NOTE ALSO: No edits have been applied to any of the MD-80/-90/B717-200 3D models .... or any of their supporting panels .... currently offered by HJG.

This particular manual is currently undergoing online editing .... and is being expanded to include the B717-200 .... after all the B717-200 is DC-9/MD-80/-90 derived. Be mindful that whilst "SECTION 4" of this revision is "COMPLETE" (those whom were privileged to receive this updated flying guide prior to this release should update/replace what they have with this newest data) .... "SECTIONS 1/2/and 3" aren't. The editing of these other sections is a WIP and can only progress "as time and opportunity permit". An announcement will be made when this revision is entirely complete. In the meantime .... what's provided is "quite adequate" .... though some imagery isn't currently displaying through it being replaced.

3. "NEW" sound packs (by Benoit PLAMONDON) have been released for the HJG DC-9 and MD-80 simulations (only) .... but .... "not for our B717-200's and MD-90's".

Each of these "NEW" DC-9 and MD-80 sound packs have been "customized" in accordance with the FDE for these simulations .... and also provided as "separate FS2004 and FSX audio file versions".

The FS2004 versions of these sound packs are compiled as flight-deck (FD) perspective audio only .... whilst the FSX versions of these sound packs are compiled as separate flight-deck and wing-view/cabin (WV) perspective audio files.

The "FD" version sound packs are intended for those preferring high-quality audio based exclusively upon what's heard from a "flight deck perspective" .... and with high-fidelity external sound added. What's heard on the flight deck is quite different from the PAX cabin environment aboard any civil jetliner. For E.G .... using these "FD" sound packs one will be treated to the predominant sounds of flight deck based avionics, and wind friction in proportion to acceleration/deceleration and with "very little engine noise" actually being audible (particularly in the case of aircraft with rear fuselage mounted engines), and when selecting both flaps and landing gear one will only hear "clicking" of the associated levers .... and a whole lot more.

The "WV" version sound packs are intended for those preferring high-quality audio based exclusively upon what's heard from a "cabin perspective" .... and with high-fidelity external sound added. What's heard within the PAX cabin is quite different from the flight deck environment aboard any civil jetliner. For E.G .... using these "WV" sound packs one will be treated to the predominant sound of cabin air conditioning and a different type of wind friction in proportion to acceleration/deceleration and engine noise being much more audible too (as is to be expected in the case with any aircraft .... particularly in the case of aircraft with rear fuselage mounted engines), and when selecting both flaps and landing gear one will only hear the associated flap motors along along with the muffled "rumble" of the gear being extended .... and a whole lot more too.

PLEASE NOTE: All original HJG supplied DC-9 and MD-80 sound packs must now be deleted and "REPLACED" with these "NEW" audio files. "DO NOT" use FSX specific sound packs in FS2004 .... and .... "DO NOT use the FS2004 specific sound packs in FSX. Each of these superb new sound packs "MUST" be used in conjunction with their correct and corresponding aircraft type and/or aircraft type/engine type aircraft base packs in order for this new audio to function as intended.

PLEASE NOTE ALSO: As these "NEW" sound packs are customized for use with HJG supplied FDE (only) they may not function as well with non-HJG supplied DC-9 and MD-80 simulations .... they'll continue to work, but, not with the intended audio playback fidelity.


4. A "NEW" DC-9 Panels Gauges/Core Files "V1.3" package has also been released.

This "NEW" package contains panel sound revisions (only .... no changes have been applied to any of the gauges or modules associated with the HJG DC-9 panels) in order to address the original raw volume of certain panel features when used with these "NEW" DC-9 sound packs.

PLEASE NOTE: The original DC-9 Panels Gauges/Core files package must now be deleted and "REPLACED" with this "NEW" file version.


5. 2 "NEW" DC-9-30 aircraft base packs have been introduced .... these being for the DC-9-30PF. The DC-9 -30PF (and -40PF also) was "essentially" a freighter conversion of former standard -30 (and -40) series aircraft, but, without the port side forward fuselage main deck cargo door of the -30RC, -MC, and -CF/F versions, and nor did these aircraft feature the strengthened floors of their convertible/freighter configured counterparts either. These aircraft were effectively "PARCEL" type freighters. HJG's DC-9-30PF's are based on both P&W JT8D-7 and -D9 engines and feature a basic "CARGO" cargo configuration different from that of its DC-9-30CF/F series simulations.


6. This one's just "A REMINDER" ....

On February 18th 2001 HJG released fixed and reformatted textures for the 1982 REPUBLIC AIRLINES DC-9-14 N8914E; 2013 EVERTS AIR CARGO MD-82SF N73444; and 1983 ALASKA AIRLINES MD-83 N972AS .... along with "FAKE/WHAT IF textures for a 1995 liveried BRITISH WEST INDIAN AIRLINES L-1011-250 TRISTAR and a 2010 liveried HAWAIIAN AIRLINES L-1011-150 TRISTAR. On March 5th 2021 corrected textures for the 1990 FEDERAL EXPRESS DC-10-10CF N68049 and 1985 FEDERAL EXPRESS DC-10-30CF N305FE were also released .... along with "NEW" DC-9-30F P&W JT8D-7 and DC-9-30F P&W JT8D-17 (the later is for DC-9-34CF textures only) aircraft base packs; as well as "NEW" DC-9-40PF P&W JT8D-11 and DC-9-40PF P&W JT8D-15 aircraft base packs.

SOUND PACK ASSIGNMENTS FOR HJG B717-200, DC-9, & MD-80/90 SIMULATIONS

1. In the case of the DC-9 ....

There are no obvious distinguishing audio characteristics between either P&W JT8D-1/-5/and -7 series engines, but, these engines "DO" exhibit slightly different audio characteristics from later P&W JT8D-9/-11/-15/and -17 series engines.

There are no obvious distinguishing audio characteristics between either P&W JT8D-9/-11/-15/and -17 engines. but once again, these engines "DO" exhibit slightly different audio characteristics from earlier P&W JT8D-1/-5/and -7 series engines.

PLEASE NOTE: The appropriate and differing audio characteristics "HAVE" been implemented to both DC-9 JT8D series sound packs.

PLEASE NOTE ALSO: The HJG recommended DC-9-30 REFAN sound assignment (MD-80 P&W JT8D-217/-219 sound pack) "IS NOT" authentic P&W JT8D-109 audio, but, "IS" an acceptable substitute. This particular aircraft test flew the P&W JT8D-109 (noise suppression evaluations) upon its completion during 1975. Following these tests it was then fitted with standard DC-9 type P&W JT8D-9 engines .... and delivered to INNEX ADRIA AIRWAYS (YU-AJR) later during 1975.

The HJG supplied DC-9 sound packs are offered as "SEPARATE" F2004 and FSX specific audio .... select this audio in conjunction with your FS version of use/choice and apply each sound pack as recommended within the following list ....

PLEASE NOTE: The HJG recommended B717-200 sound assignment (MD-90 IAE V2525-D5 sound pack) "IS NOT" authentic RR BR715-A1/-C1 audio, but, "IS" an acceptable substitute.

PLEASE NOTE ALSO: The HJG supplied MD-90 IAE V2525-D5 sound pack is "F2004 NATIVE ONLY" .... no FSX native version of this particular sound pack is available from HJG, but, what's currently offered will work "IN FSX" .... though not in accordance with HJG's audio playback/quality expectations. Alternative FSX native RR BR715-A1/-C1 and IAE V2525-D5 audio options (if available at all), having not been tailored in accordance with HJG FDE, "may not" (possibly) function desirably (again in accordance with our expectations) when used with HJG supplied B717-200 and MD-90 simulations.

"THANKS" to those whom have taken the time to express their appreciation of what we've recently released.

This last update is "the largest" ever undertaken throughout HJG's 21 years of existence .... so .... given this duration, if not this groups perceived coming of age too, it's perhaps that fitting this last release was something more than the usual/a little out of the ordinary".

It was effectively a culmination of some unusual supply circumstances that have never occurred before, but, "we got there".

Not sure if something of this magnitude/volume will ever again be repeated, but as always, that depends upon production, supply, and other circumstances .... SO .... we'll see what happens in the future
