Due to Progress we've made with this project and which has made a fair bit of what I originally presented now redundant/"BETTER" .... I'm going to restart this thread.I often like to think the only difference between the possible and impossible is the measure of one's will power It'd be nice if FS was like this too, but, the reality (when one considers availability of certain resource/s, skill/s, as well as personal time as well) more often than not the are "DIFFERENT" .... and for a multitude of reasons beyond our control Sometimes we get do get "LUCKY" though .... and even end up even "SURPRISING OURSELVES" .... and which then (hopefully) enables us to "SURPRISE" everyone else too Although the subject of this presentation "ISN'T" something we ever set out or planned to do (for the above-hinted reasons primarily) we've recently been fiddling with our DC-8 models .... and in doing so found we could do a wee bit more than even we bargained. A number of parts associated of these "UPDATED" models have been "replaced/totally rebuilt/re-detailed and/or otherwise re-dimensioned/better proportioned. It should also now be possible to paint/detail certain parts of these models that previously couldn't be addressed due to limitations imposed by our original/currently downloadable V5.4 DC-8 models. The results of this/"Paul's efforts" have been very encouraging so far despite what we don't have to be able to work with .... because it was lost many years ago .... or that we can't change in order to avoid buggering things up completely .... BUT .... for the effort that has successfully been applied a number of features of these "UPDATED" DC-8 models do now look much better proportioned than previously .... and as may be evident per the following presentation .... DC-8-50 SHIP ONE (the original DC-8 modified by DAC/MDC with P&W JT3D SERIES fanjet engines .... attached to original DC-8-10 through -40 SERIES engine pylons) .... DC-8-51 (initial production PAX version DC-8-50 variant .... domestic configuration) .... DC-8-51F (pure freight conversion of former PAX configured DC-8-51's .... with port side forward fuselage main deck cargo door and non-strengthened floor and non-strengthened floor) ....DC-8-51F HK3DC-8-52 (increased weight PAX version .... international/over water configuration) ....DC-8-52F (pure freight conversion of former PAX configured DC-8-52's .... with port side forward fuselage main deck cargo door with port side forward fuselage main deck cargo door and non-strengthened floor) ....DC-8-53 (further increased weight PAX version) ....DC-8-53F (pure freight conversion of former PAX configured DC-8-53's .... with port side forward fuselage main deck cargo door with port side forward fuselage main deck cargo door and non-strengthened floor) ....DC-8-54F & JT (convertible PAX/pure freight/COMBI version of the DC-8-50 SERIES .... with port side forward fuselage main deck cargo door and strengthened floor) ....DC-8-54F HK3DC-8-55 (high gross weight PAX version) ....DC-8-55F (pure freight conversion of former PAX configured high gross weight DC-8-55's .... with port side forward fuselage main deck cargo door and strengthened floor) ....DC-8 SUPER 61 (initial production PAX version of SUPER 61 variant .... domestic configuration)....DC-8 SUPER 61CF (convertible PAX/pure freight/COMBI version of SUPER -61's .... with port side forward fuselage main deck cargo door and strengthened floor....DC-8 SUPER 61F (pure freight conversion of former PAX configured SUPER 61's .... with port side forward fuselage main deck cargo door and non-strengthened floor)....DC-8 SUPER 61F HK3Here's "some of" (but not all of) the 3D model improvements .... DC-8-50 SHIP ONE (original DC-8-10 type) engine pylons ....DC-8-50 through SUPER 61 (standard/production type) engine pylons ....DC-8-50 through SUPER 61 engine pylons fixed/improved over original 3D models ....DC-8-50 through SUPER 61 engine static grills and fans improved over original 3D models ....DC-8-50 through SUPER 61 engine thrust reversers .... additional detailing ....DC-8-50 through SUPER 61 engine exhaust/tail pipe details improved over original 3D models .... ....DC-8-50 SERIES flying the virtual line in FS ....DC-8-50F SERIES flying the virtual line in FS ....DC-8 SUPER 61 SERIES flying the virtual line in FS ....As stated at the commencement of this thread .... the nature of a number of improvements implemented "since this preview was first posted by me" now warrant my restarting it "again". DC-8 SUPER -62, SUPER -62CF, SUPER -62F, SUPER -62H, SUPER -6H/F, SUPER -63 (low weight), SUPER -63, SUPER -63CF, SUPER -63F, SUPER -63(PF), SUPER -71, SUPER -71F, SUPER -72, SUPER -72F, SUPER -73, SUPER -73F .... will follow. In terms of the variety of DC-8's we represent everything will remain "precisely as is currently offered by us" .... only it'll all be "BETTER" than it originally was I'll add the other installments as time an opportunity permit Mark C AKL/NZ

This is fantastic! A big part of the engines that lacked a lot was the intake side of things, like visible stator blades etc

"THAT" was a limitation of the soon to become original/old models, but, it also needs to be remembered that those particular models originated from the very early 2000's era.
Given the resource we still lack (which was lost many years ago) we've done the "best we can" using what remains and which "DOES" result in a number of significant improvements over what's currently downloadable.
Some of the "NEW" DC-8-62 and SUPER 63 animations are different again .... and will be presented "later".

They look absolutely fantastic, those new engine details are what this simulation desperately needed (I understand that it hasn’t been feasible till now) Have there been any improvements to the fuselage or other parts? I could’ve sworn there were some mapping issues that conflicted with other parts. But do forgive me I haven’t attempted to paint these hjg birds in years so my memory may be failing me edit: I just saw what you said mark “In terms of the variety of DC-8's we represent everything will remain "precisely as is currently offered by us" .... only again it'll all be "BETTER" than it originally was”

Don't (immediately) recall any mapping related issues that "conflicted" with model parts, but, there "were/are" (certainly) some parts of the current 3D models that, for reasons of mapping related limitations (again remember the original models were produced almost 20 years ago .... and things/philosophies were "different" way back then) simply couldn't/can't be textured/detailed .... at least not as we'd like. We anticipate this'll change though with these updated models.

"EVERYTHING" (among the DC-8's I mean) .... is getting the same set of treatment The -50, -60, and -70 SERIES aircraft are all "basically" done as represented above (with the exception of "a couple of surprise additions" I hope to present today/within the next few days) .... so the JTC, JT3C-6, JT4A, and RR CONWAY powered versions covering DC-8 SHIP ONE 1959 and the DC-8-10, -20, -30, and -40 variants respectively "WILL" follow Although everything's progressing "NICELY" there's still quite a lot of work to be done and over the next few months Mark C AKL/NZ

Can’t wait to see the reveal mark. The dc8 has always been one of my absolute favourites, and these “minor” detailing add a HUGE element to the overall feel and quality that until now, has been lacking (due to skilled people not being able to achieve it until now)

Although we can only do what we can do .... based on the data that remains and which we have access to (the rest was "LOST" many years ago) .... some of the applied editing is actually much more than "minor" considering a number of parts have been "ENTIRELY REBUILT" and have therefore needed to be "RETEXTURED" too. In short .... there's quite a bit more to all of this than I've presented so far or that meets the eye. This's only been possible because we have "a good and dedicated" team of technical specialists .... in regard to the FS platform/s we represent As I mentioned at the very start of this thread .... as much as we often like to "surprise everyone" we also sometimes ultimately end up "SURPRISING OUTRSELVES" as well Mark C AKL/NZ
