That's primarily been dictated by HJG's origins and the fact it all commenced 22 (+) years ago.
HJG started out (in earnest) as an FS2000 platform then progressed into FS2002, followed by FS2004, and finally to FSX.
Most of what we've produced or otherwise offer was portable to the earliest versions of P3D .... but that platform eventually advanced beyond compatibility with the FS freeware products we market "here".
What was originally produced between 2000 and 2006 (by both ourselves and other parties who's work we host here), and including some productions we released as late as 2010 or thereabouts too, lent itself to relatively easy conversion to FS platforms as late as FSX.
HJG's essentially an FS2004 platform but most of what it offers is FSX portable, barring the FSFT CONCORDE simulation, and a few remaining panels and sound packs .... some of which we're looking at the possibility of revising and otherwise improving.
There's lot we'd like to be able to do but more often than not there's only so much we're actually accomplish
With regard to 3D models: We can update some of our own models (although source code for others is no longer in existence) .... "but only to a point" .... because we've so many liveries for some we simply can't risk model imposed texture bumping resulting from full-fledged new and re-mapped model upgrades. This's been a major factor with our currently ongoing DC-8 model upgrade. In respect of these particular models Paul's accomplished "A LOT" by remaking many parts far better than they previously were .... and fixing "absolutely untold" previous and long-existent faults/errors among the original versions of these models, but again, only to the extent of such editing not bumping the literally hundreds of DC-8 textures we've produced over the years. Otherwise we'd be imposing the impossible task upon ourselves of replacing every single DC-8 texture we currently offer .... and we simply can't do that
To cut a very long and boring story short ....
To a degree we're stuck with, and are restricted by, what we've had for so long and that's still perfectly useable .... and this reality can be extended to include some of the panels/gauges and sound packs we offer too since precisely the same limitation/s apply to these as well.
Also .... a lot of what we offer (and even some of what we've produced too) "IS NOT" ours to "freely modify". This often requires "CONSENT" beforehand .... however in cases where some authors are no longer resident on this planet, or have otherwise disappeared into the global abyss of this now COVID stricken and conflict ravaged new world, then, there's no way such "CONSENT" can be obtained.
In addition to this .... we're also only capable of "easily" (key word) modifying models "of a certain format", but, others compiled in different or more advanced format require entirely different skills in order to contend with their superior complexity.
Another aspect of all this too is the fact we can't upgrade models for use with other FS platforms unless we, ourselves, are all using those very same new FS platforms too .... otherwise it'd be impossible to provide advice and support. And even if we could successfully address such upgrading the content of the HJG website is now so broad I doubt we'd complete such conversion before leaving the launching pad and shooting off into space (dying) .... we're mostly just a bunch of old farts here now
.... with one "very popular" exception
Most of, but not all of, what we offer is the result of collaborative team work. I've occasionally likened some of what we do, and offer, to be akin to a jig-saw puzzle with each person possessing a vital part of what ultimately assembles to form the greater picture .... "THE END PRODUCT". We all appreciate you taking the time, and effort, to express your enjoyment in regard to what we offer .... because fewer, and fewer, people seem to bother doing so these days .... as we continue trying to squeeze yet a few more years out of what we offer for the benefit of those who's interest in HJG prevails, but, the sun is definitely setting upon us .... and we're very much aware of that too, but, the HJG beach party certainly ain't over yet.
Thanks again "EXPAT" .... for your positive commentary
