There's been more than a handful of the worlds famous/once prominent performers/entertainers leave the launching pad and shooting into space recently Canadian singer/songwriter Gordon LIGHTFOOT is one with a long and very respected track record .... dating back to the mid 70's when I first became aware of him and his music. Gordon passed away a few days ago .... apparently he recorded his last video interview only a matter of hours before he passed Think he liked ships, boats, and the sea/lakes a lot since these featured in a number of his hit songs .... some of which which tended to be represented as "a story" .... I think he was the first big-name concert I went to at the age of 12 or so...I knew maybe two songs of his at the time, and it was very different than most of the concerts I've been to since, but he still put on a great show! I've really come to appreciate his approach to songwriting and storytelling, and sad as it is that he's no longer with us, his career longevity is both remarkable and admirable.

Whilst his song "DAYLIGHT KATIE" is known to have maritime connotations (I'd always actually thought DAYLIGHT KATE was a schooner .... or the like thereof) he apparently wrote that particular song about "his cat".
The lines ... "SHE LIVES 9 LIVES" .... within the lyrics of this song should have better appealed to my awareness/intelligence.
I think one of the beauties of the songs Gordon wrote and performed (those that relate to history and/or real world events at least .... like "THE WRECK OF THE EDMUND FITZEERALD") is these will "never date" .... and therefore remain a musical monument to the events they depict/relate to and for as long as we remember them.
As I said within my first presentation .... the man, and his unique "Canadian drool" may be gone, but, his thoughts/feelings expressed within the music he wrote and performed, remain with us.
