Hi Folks...Ok CV-990a all downloaded..just waiting for my resident wizard (my lad) to install them for moi!..then I go fly! Just as a matter of interest.......my folks in 1969 did BHX (Birmingham UK) to Palma(Spain) in a Spantax Cv-990 in 1hr 35min wheels off to wheels on. My late Dad kept notes of all his numerous trips. Just putting it into a 'great circle' mileage engine comes up with 916 miles........so the AVERAGE speed comes out at 590MPH....ground speed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've read many times that there are loads of airport to airport times that will probably NEVER be beaten...in our life times............they were seriously slick planes! Best Regards John PS BMi baby managed 2hr 10m on my last East Midlands(EGNX) to Palma (LEPA)on a 737-5.

OH YEAH .... not only were they slick .... but .... they were quick too .... albeit thirsty though .... and as a result were range impaired .... as well as capacity disadvantaged by their 5 abreast seating.
Hardly economic .... but still .... "NOSTALGIC" as we review them now.
Interestingly .... when the first oil price shock of the 1970's really started to bite, airlines like SPANTAX, and MODERN AIR, began winding cruising speed all the way back down to MACH 0.78 .... and in doing so "UP" went the range .... to the extent that 1 MODERN AIR charter even flew Philadelphia/Vienna "direct" .... a distance of some 4,319 miles. Much later in their service career with SPANTAX a 6 abreast configuration was finally/belatedly incorporated into their CV990's with modified seating.

I'm sure there's been many times over the past several weeks both George and myself felt like stuffing this whole project in the bin .... "BLOODY CONVAIR's" .... but .... we got there in the end .... and hopefully a whole lot more closer to performance reality too I'd just like to say that the experience of editing the simulated CV-990A to hit Mach 0.97 without unrealistically high engine thrust really made me respect the designers of the real aircraft!

YA NOT WRONG THERE OLD SON !!!! ;D Getting those CONVAIR's "close to right" would have to be "THE MOST" difficult project we've ever worked on .... FDE-wise .... and in my own personal oppinion ! A project I hope never to have to repeat Mark C BOG/CO
