Hi I am really impressed with the quality of the models available from HJG I particularly like the heavy feel to flying them which must be as they are in real life I assume however I find on landing that they stop faster than my DHC-6. Is there some tweak I can make to the air or config files to allow a decent roll out after landing. I would think jets the size of the DC 8 would require a long runway wouldn't they? I have the DC-8-50 and 73F and they both land the same way. I am running FSX Acceleration if that makes any difference Thanks for the great models though and keep up the good work.

I'm not aware of any particular landing/rollout problem with any of our aircraft .... including the DC8's.
I generally start an approach from 12 (or more miles) at around 180 KTS .... reducing to about 150 KTS by the the time everything's out and down.
Rollout after landing should by no means be short .... in fact I purposely timed the reverse thrust WAV for all our soundpacks to run for a good 10-15 seconds aircraft type and for that reason.
Touching down at around 150-145 KTS .... those 10-15 seconds are long enough audio cycle for reverse thrust sounds to spool up (press keyboard F2 "ONCE ONLY") and play when selected .... terminating at around 80KTS or thereabouts .... then all you need to do is apply braking energy for the remainder of each rollout after landing and down to a sensible taxiing speed.
Your apparently short rollout reminds me of a problem I once encountered way back in the FS98 days .... and I wonder if this (as follows) might apply here ....
FS keyboard instructions back then stipulated selecting and "holding down" keyboard F2 to apply reverse thrust.
When I did this though I found my aircraft stopping almost immediately.
Rather than holding down keyboard F2 to apply reverse thrust after landing .... try selecting/pressing it "ONCE ONLY" .... to see if that cures your problem.
As I said above .... I'm not aware of any desceleration problems associated with any of our aircraft FDE. You should be getting a good sensibly long rollout after landing and regardless of weight.

Hi Marc and thanks for the info.
I don't use the F2 key as I have CH yoke and FSUIPC so it is programed to reverse thrust on the throttle. It works great on all other planes but perhaps I was landing at too low a speed. I had set up for a light touch and go type circuit so I landed at about 120 knots. Maybe if I were heavier and faster on landing I would get the roll I'm looking for. Anyway I love the models and this is not a big issue with me. Thanks again for the info

It is my feeling that fsuipc in more than one occasion is "hurting" our panels.... especially when using FSX.
As some of you may already know there is a new interface to FSX called SimConnect, and according to Pete Dowson, fsuipc is using this more than tampering with settings itself, but apparently some are experiencing troubles when using the Joysticks etc. instead of using the Keyboard combinations..... Some have resolved the issues by re-configuring their joysticks with every new version of fsuipc ... others have not.... Sorry I don't have a final answer...
