Hallo, I have a problem with the INS for the B707. After i made a setup for a cold start as explained in the "about HJG aircraft" and i move the aircraft from the default KSEA airport to a other airport and power the aircraft as the instructions and i try to align the INS according the instructions then the following fault occur. When i put the MCU knob from "off" to "stby"and set the knob on the CDU to "Pos" and enter the new airport position the enter light stays illuminated after enter the "N" data and pushed it in to set the data, this happens also as i try to enter the "W" data. And after put the MCU knob to "align" and a quick align a fault code appear a time 65. After switching back to "pos" i find the data from the KSEA airport on the display and i can,t clear this at all, this happens on all other airports. I don,t know what i am doing wrong or is it fault Hope you can help me. rgds Willem.

It possibly is due to the way you're trying to program it .... BUT .... I need someone who's INS competent to assist with this .... since INS is about the only aspect of our B707/720 panels which I've never (yet) become familiar with ! Mark C BOG/CO

Hi Willem! Could you clarify what is "a time 65"? I tried to replicate what you said and couldn't find a fault. There isn't an "Enter" button as such. However, there is an "Insert" button. After powering up the MSU and CDU to the STB position, when entering the actual position, after entering the Longitude, press "Insert" only once. The Insert button will remain with the light on. Then enter your Latitude and press "Insert" once. Its light should go off now. That is the normal procedure. As you moved the aircraft more than a few feet, when moving the selector to the DSTRK/STS position, you will get an error 6-41. That is normal. The system is only telling you that there is a discrepancy between your last position (KSEA) and the new airport. To erase the error, just press the "Test" button a couple of times. Then, you can align the gyros! Soft Landings! P.S. I just re-read your question. It seems that the only error from you is if you press the "Insert" button more than once between entering the N/S part and the E/W part of the initial position. Remember to press only once when entering the initial POS. The behaviour is different when you enter Waypoints in that the light will go off after entering part of a waypoint.

Hallo, Thanks for the reply. Sorry a mean "Insert" button! I did,t no that the insert light stays on during inserting the pos N or W or E pos and yes i pressed it several times. But i tryed it again and during alignment (quick align) with the selector at DSTRK/STS position you see 95 and count down to 85 ,75 ,65,and at 65 the warn light comes on and the code you see: is 045-65 and after pressing the test button 004-65 and it hangs there no count down anymore. What i found accidently that after press the wpt change button and change the "from/to" to 0 to 1 the count down starts again till the green light is ON on the MSU panel Hope you have some more information rgds Willem.

Hi Willem! Sorry for only answering now! No, I don't have much to say except you should read again the manual very carefully and see if there is something amiss. And you didn't get the error code correctly. The 65 bit you mention, at the end of the display is the Performance index and the Mode Index. As you saw during the alignment the PI decreases from 9 to 5. The last number 5 is the desired Index. When it reaches the 65 and stops, it is because an error ocurred. You got only the first part of the error code: 04. You need to press the Test button a few times. Here is the error codes possible: * 04-45 - Entered ramp position is incorrect, or outside operating limits (80°N to 80°S). The aircraft must be stopped and the MSU switched to STBY to clear this error. * 04-57 - Caused by taxying during gyroscope alignment. The aircraft must be stopped and the MSU switched to STBY to clear this error before alignment is restarted. * 06-41 - Inserted ramp position more than 3 NM miles away from last inertial position. This happens often in the simulation environment, and can be cleared by pressing TEST twice if the inserted ramp position is correct. * 06-56 - Unacceptable discrepancy between Inertial and Displayed position. Position updates must be eradicated by selecting DSTRK/STS mode, switching autopilot out of INS mode, then pressing [1][INSERT]. This changes the MI from 4 to 5. Hope this helps you! Soft Landings!

Hallo, Thanks for the reply.
I will read the instruction again. Sorry to say but this is what i see when the rotary switch is in the DSRTK/STS pos during the alignment when the warn light comes on "045-65"and pushing the test button "004-65" on right side of the display. This is what i have do going from KSEA to EGLL and entering this pos(N512842/W02685)
