Hi,
Long ago, when I began to fly the DC85, I found a very useful booklet entitled "How to fly the DC-8" and I would like to find it again. Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance,
Lluís

I presume you're referring to a PDF entitled "FLYING THE DC8" which accompanied all DC8 files offered by the old/original HJG and prior to April 2006.
If so .... then .... most that data, along with other extensive notes too, have since been Incorporated into the "DC8 PANEL INSTALLATION & HANDLING NOTES" posting which appears on the ABOUT HJG AIRCRAFT forum page.
Similar postings for each of our other aircraft (except the BAe 146 and DC9) also exist on this particular forum page too .... entitled ....
"B707/720 PANEL HANDLING & INSTALLATION NOTES"
"B727 PANEL INSTALLATION & HANDLING NOTES"
"CONVAIR PANEL INSTALLATION AND HANDLING NOTES"
And a similarly informative/extensive "CARAVELLE PANEL INSTALLATION & HANDLING NOTES" posting appears on the CARAVELLE SUPPORT forum page too.
I perhaps need to stress that these particular notes are not about installation processes only for these panels and aircraft. They actually go a lot further than that .... to explaining various panel operations and the flying characteristics/performances of some of these aircraft too. In some cases these notes also feature a number of recommended "DO IT YOURSELF" fixes .... along with a list of known issues .... and in most cases are also accompanied by basic FS flying guides (not realworld data) for each aircraft type too .... the latter being important in considering of the fact that each aircraft type we offer features different FDE in order to try and simulate its known performance as accurately as our abilities in conjunction with FS limitations will currently permit. These notes are also constantly revised and updated from time to time too.

Hi, Thank you Mark. As you can see, I fly the DC85 since quite long ago I will look for this document where you say. Again, thanks a lot, Lluís

I still have a document named 'dc8_panel_v2.pdf', which came with some version of the HJG DC-8 panel. It gives some guidelines, but isn't very detailed.
If you give me your email address (send me a PM), I can email the pdf file to you.
If you want more detailed procedures (climb speeds, approach speeds & configuration etc) then go to avsim and look for a file named dc8manual.zip. These are scans from an old Air Canada DC-8 manual. There are four chapters: Chapter 2 - Normal Operation, which includes Takeoff through Approach and Landing procedures. Chapter 4 - Performance, which includes performance charts for DC-8-40 (RR Conway), DC-8-50 (JT3D-3), DC-8-61 (JT3D-3) and DC-8-63 (JT3D-7). Chapter 20 - Flight Instruments, which includes detailed descriptions and schematics of the pitot static system, gyrosyn compass system, and a flight director approach diagram. Chapter 21 - Automatic Flight Control System, which includes descriptions and a schematic of the autopilot system, as well as a description of autothrottle operation (Air Canada had some DC-8-63s with autothrottle). These are the only chapters I have, so don't bother asking for more! Big thanks to Herman Kreimes who provided the material for scans.
Also look for file 'dc8perf.zip' by Matt Zagoren, which contains details of procedures taken from a real world DC-8-21/-50/-61/-62 operations/training manual.
Regards,
Jim
