Good evening,
First of all, apologies if I am asking for something already solved but I could not find any thread on this in the forum.
I have re-installed the wonderful DC-9-30 after a computer format. The install went perfect, as always, following the instruction of all zips. The version I installed is "hjg mcdonnell douglas dc-9-30 jt8d-17 v1.13.zip".
My problem is with sounds (dc9_jt8d_late_sound.zip) as when engines are in idle or below 50% (aprox.) N1 in any phase of flight, these are inaudible either in cockpit or external view. The volume of sounds is the one recommended in the installation instructions.
Did I do something wrong? What could I do to hear the engines even if idle?
Thanks in advance.

Are you saying the sounds are "completely inaudible" .... OR .... "inaudible below" a certain power setting only" ?
I'm going to assume you mean the former .... because even if one does commits an installation error/s with the intended soundpack (as is likely the case in this particular instance) the simulation will, then, only be able to access/replay those sounds associated with the panel gauges suite.
To resolve this situation .... I think you only need look at how you've installed the intended "DC9 P&W JT8D (LATE)" version soundpack.
The DC9 P&W JT8D LATE soundpack container (the folder from from the extracted ZIP file) should contain a single folder named "SOUND".
Simply delete the default (FS2004 B737-400 aliased) sound folder inside your HJG DC9-30 Aircraft Base Pack ..... and then install the new "SOUND" folder from the DC9 P&W JT8D LATE container .... and that's all you should need to do .... apart from then checking that the SOUND= line of your AIRCRAFT.CFG/FLTSIM.XX/ADD TO AIRCRAFT data reads precisely as follows ....
sound=
Do all of that correctly and there's no way in the world that the intended soundpack cannot connect with the simulation.
Just check that you haven't .... maybe .... got the required "SOUND" folder still contained within its original DC9 P&W JT8D LATE container folder from the ZIP file .... and which will, effectively, obstruct the simulation from being able to access the necessary/intended add-on sound pack.

Hi Mark, Thank you for all the information. My installation is the one you have described and correctly done. Our VA flies several HJG aircraft and I have repainted some others altough not added to our fleet. I have been flying HJG aircraft for years without any problem and this is why I am asking now. In fact, my problem is the second option you describe: ... inaudible below" a certain power setting only" ? As I said, when power setting is below about half power and lower, the engine sound inside the flight deck and in external view, decreases until become completely unaudible. I have no idea why this happens and I some help to find a solution would be very helpful. This does not happen with other aircraft installed like the DC85 and the B463, both passenger and freighter versions. Thank you very much in advance for any help. Regards, Lluís

"YES" .... I recognized your name .... yesterday SO THEN .... you're saying that the add-on engine sounds are, apparently, fading out beyond an approximately 50% power setting .... is that correct ? You are using the soundpack version offered on this website .... right ? And you've made no changes to either the soundpack .... or .... it's accompanying SOUND.CFG file .... or even the panel and AIRCRAFT.CFG and AIR.FILE data .... correct ? "PRIOR TO" recently reinstalling everything .... I presume everything ran perfcthly fine previously .... right ? "WHEN YOU RECENTLY REINSTALLED EVERYTHING" .... after your reformat .... did you merely transfer all of the necesary files from storage to your HD .... OR .... did you re-download and then re-install everything fresh and directly from the downloads pages of this/HJG website ? Nor do I to be perfectly honest And I've "NEVER .... EVER" .... heard of any such issue/experience previously either .... unless you've possibly got a corrupted, or otherwise incomplete, DC9 JT8D soundpack What is the current size (total size in MB) of your unzipped DC9 soundpack folder ? Get back to me, please, in regard to my above requested clarifications too .... because these, may, eliminate some possibilities, at least, in your particular case Mark C AKL/NZ

Good afternoon, Thanks again, Mark, for your time. Let's go step by step ... SO THEN .... you're saying that the add-on engine sounds are, apparently, fading out beyond an approximately 50% power setting .... is that correct ? YES You are using the soundpack version offered on this website .... right ? YES And you've made no changes to either the soundpack .... or .... it's accompanying SOUND.CFG file .... or even the panel and AIRCRAFT.CFG and AIR.FILE data .... correct ? No changes to any file, except the panel.cfg to enable the ATN gauge. I have it for all my aircraft, including the HJG and, of course, the DC93 in previous installations. Never had any problem. ... I presume everything ran perfectly fine previously .... right ? In previous intallations of this aircraft always alright. WHEN YOU RECENTLY REINSTALLED EVERYTHING; .... after your reformat .... did you merely transfer all of the necesary files from storage to your HD .... OR .... did you re-download and then re-install everything fresh and directly from the downloads pages of this/HJG website? I have a rather bad internet connection and I have all files saved at home in their original format (zip). Thus, when I need to reinstall anything, first I check in HJG page for the name of the file to download, I confirm that it is the same that I have and I install the one saved in my equipment. If the version is different, I download the one in the web site, install and overwrite the version I have saved in my computer. And I've NEVER .... EVER .... heard of any such issue/experience previously either .... unless you've possibly got a corrupted, or otherwise incomplete, DC9 JT8D soundpack I do not think so. The files I have saved have been used for previous installations which worked perfectly. My disks are clean and under permanent antivirus supervision. Also, as said, the other HJG aircraft installed in the same way (B463, DC85 and B722, cargo and pax versions) are running perfectly as expected (and also with the panel.cfg file modified to display the ATN gauge) What is the current size (total size in MB) of your unzipped DC9 soundpack folder? The "sound" folder of the unzipped "dc9_jt8d_late_sound.zip" file is "24,0 MB (25.220.327 bytes)" as shown in its "properties". That's all. Again thank you very much for your time and suggestions. By the way: at 1600 UTC we will start the Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2013 in VATSIM. I'll be controlling Barcelona Approach, just in case some of you want to join us ... Regards, Lluís

24 MB "IS": the correct unzipped file size for the DC9 P&W JT8D LATE version soundpack .... so it can assumed you're complete/intact in that particular department You say everything performed fine previously .... BUT .... not since your reformat and reinstallation .... and "possibly" not since implementation of the ATN gauge !!!! What happens if you revoke .... completely .... your applied ATN gauge panel edit ? These DC9 panels represent some "extremly complex programing/engineering" (the most complex yet offered by HJG) and if any additional editing was not performed correctly .... or .... if any aspect of these DC9 pasnels was, perhaps, sensitive to any additional edit .... then issues could, possibly, result. I'm speculating only .... and in particular I'm "NOT" saying your ATN gauge edit is indeed the culprit .... BUT .... whilst some edits might appear to run fine with many other panels/simulations such might not be the case in 100% of cases .... and more-so, possibly, since the panels offered by HJG each represent the programing/engineering preferences of a number of different authors rather than a comon philosophy of just on, only, individual .... and which could, possibly, then lead to a unique incompatibility. I don't think your issue is an installatuion error. If it were then these DC9 panels simply wouldn't display at all, or, would simply CTD upon any attempt to load a DC9 simulation into FS .... and which is clearly "NOT" the case in your particular case. AGAIN .... I've never .... ever .... heard of any such an issue previously arising in respect of any these DC9 soundpacks/simulations .... or even those of any other HJG hosted soundpacks/simulationms either I regret to say I'm "BUGGERED IF I KNOW" where to go from here Lluis Mark C AKL/NZ

Good evening, Sorry for the late reply but this has been a busy week. Also, I had to test some things before responding so ... Ok, let's see: What happens if you revoke .... completely .... your applied ATN gauge panel edit ? It happens nothing. I have tested the aircraft with the original panel.cfg and the situation is exactly the same: no engine sound inside the cockpit and external sound fades off when N1 drops below 50%. In fact ATN gauge (by Etienne Martin) is very useful and makes no modifications anywhere. I have used it for years with all types of aircraft from many different developers without any problem. In fact, thanks to this gauge, I can sort out problems in aircraft like PSS B757 and A320 where there is no way to switch on the GEN. With this gauge I can check (among many other things) if GEN are on and make sure I will not run out of battery during the flight. Also, with the HJG DC93, for example, where one can switch on the strobes on the overhead and the main panel, I can check if those lights are on (and eventually light them) by means of the ATC gauge. Sometimes, some DC93 lights do not switch on using their switches. I regret to say I'm "BUGGERED IF I KNOW" where to go from here Lluis I am as well :-) I sincerely have no idea why this is happening. As said, I fly several HJG aircraft without any problem and I am afraid the problem comes from somewhere in my FS9 install or system. I am suffering something similar with Project Fokker Jetliner F70 where the external engine sound is unaudible even if those engines are running beyond 80% N1. Never had any problem with those wonderful aircraft and now I am having. Why? A mistery as many other things in this amazing simulator. I will try the "old" procedure of uninstall all and reinstall again completely and hope that it works. I wish to thank you sincerely for your time and effort trying to solve this problem of mine. I really appreciate it. Thank you Mark By the way ... I have bookmarked all the threads I have published but I do not receive any email when a reply is posted as I can do in other forums. Is there any way or should I continue logging in to see if someone has published and answer? Again thanks, Lluís

It seems, to me, that something on your system or FS installation "MAY" be the cause of your audio playback problem .... especially if everything worked fine previously as, you say, it did prior to your reformat .... and more-so too since you also, now, state that you appear to be experiencing a similar issue with another non-HJG simulation. I can say that each of the HJG DC9 panels and their supporting gauges/core files are fine .... as are each of the AEROMUSICA DC9 soundpacks also. ESSENTIALLY .... I'm all out of ideas !!!!I can't speak at all for your ATN guage edit .... since it's not an HJG endorsed addition. "IT" may .... or may not .... cause issues among other complexities associated with the HILMERBY/CARTY DC9 panels and that might not arise with other simulations. It neds to be borne in mind that the programig of HJG supplied simulations is often according to individual rather than common philosofies according to various individual programmers. Different modules can have different effects among other simulations. The only thing (I am aware of .... having, myself, been responsible for most pre-release testing of HJG DC9's and then writing of the supporting forum based/online manual for these simulations) that might cause any of the lighting system associated with these DC9 simulations to not function is if the Panel ELECTRICAL BUS system has not been correctly configured .... either from a default engines running panel scenario, or, from a cold and dark panel scenario which requires use of the APU in order to power all of the panel systems (and start the engines too) and which uses a separate ELECTRICAL BUS system .... which then needs to be reconfigured/reset from the APU bus to the panels main electrical bus system after engine startup and APU shutdown. Failure to to this correctly "WILL" result in either a full electrical systems failure .... or .... various lighting switches possibly not working. ALSO .... using the HILMERBY/CARTY DC9 panels .... "IF" one transitions from one DC9 aircraft type to another within the same FS session then the entire panel .... including its ELECTRICAL BUS systems .... will need to be reactivated/reconfigured or none of the lighting might work .... or .... a complete electrical failure (of all instruments) might otherwise occur. It "MiGHT" pay you to read the entirety of "SECTION 2" within my following DC9 PANEL INSTALLATION & HANDLIG NOTES" posting .... tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=chat&action=display&thread=3435This is the HJG forum based/online DC9 manual to which I referred above. The suggested "SECTION 2" covers the correct procedure/s for APU startup, engine startup, and general panel/instrument/systems configuration. The subsequent "SECTION 3" of this manual then describes most of these systems again .... as individual sub panel systems .... and often in greater detail. To suffer non-functionality of any lighting systems.... or any other kind of panel systems related failure .... then "something" wthin the panel/s systems has not been correctly configured. As is evident per each of the following DC9-30 images .... all lighting (NAV and strobes) on the DC9-30's .... and on other HJG DC9 models too .... works fine "provided that the panel systems have all been correctly configured in the first instance". PLEASE NOTE: Wingtip lighting on the HJG DC9 models is "NOT" of the "flashing/blinking" variety (since not all aircraft were actually equipped with this sort of lighting system), but, upper and lower fuselage anti-collision lighting "IS" of this variety .... and "DOES" function accordingly. Here .... it is expected that people should monitor their own forum postings. The HJG forum will not automatially notify posters of replies to their own threads Mark C AKL/NZ

Good morning, Once again, thank you for your time and proposals. Let me just comment a couple of things: It "MiGHT" pay you to read the entirety of "SECTION 2" within my following DC9 PANEL INSTALLATION & HANDLIG NOTES" posting .... tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=chat&action=display&thread=3435This is the HJG forum based/online DC9 manual to which I referred above. The suggested "SECTION 2" covers the correct procedure/s for APU startup, engine startup, and general panel/instrument/systems configuration. The subsequent "SECTION 3" of this manual then describes most of these systems again .... as individual sub panel systems .... and often in greater detail. Yes. I already read that the first time I installed this aircraft and I even made some kind of checklist with that section, just to make easier and faster its reading to make the aircraft run as it should. Off the record, I write manuals for flight simulation and I think that these are essential. I am afraid I am a rare species because of that as most people do not read any manual at all. Here .... it is expected that people should monitor their own forum postings. The HJG forum will not automatially notify posters of replies to their own threads Well, I have found the solution as there is a section within profile/bookmarks where I can select to receive an email to notify anything new. It works perfect and the only problem is that it is quite hidden inside the user's profile. Now I am going to install the B727-200 Adv and see what happens. If those work fine, I'll try unistalling the DC93 and reinstalling. Perhaps (I hope) it works. Thank you very much for everything, Lluis

Install the B727 by all means .... "IF" you care to .... BUT REMEMBER .... and as I have tried to point out within a couple of my previous postings on this thread ....
The programming of many of the panels/simulations currently offered by HJG varies, considerably, on the basis of the varying philosophies of any number of different designers rather than their being consistent/similar preferences right throughout.
For reasons of such programming variances I suspect one will not see the same result, you say, you are experiencing, with the DC9's also being manifested in the B727's too .... SO .... I need to say that comparisons should not ever be made/drawn in this particular manner in order to "possibly" try and reach more general conclusions.
Whatever is causing your DC9 issue/s is not the simulation itself .... and of that I am 99 % certain .... otherwise a stream of very similar complaints would be seen here.
I'm satisfied the your DC9 problem/s must be in regard to something located in your system .... OR .... the result something else you may have installed within FS in particular that is, obviously, not interacting well with the DC9's.

Hi,
I've installed the B722-adv (pax and cargo) without any problem and everything running perfectly as usual.
I've done some experiments with the default aliased panels and sounds, the special panel and sounds for this aircraft, loading first the default FS2004 flight, then loading an aircraft and then another, etc. Some different combinations and here are the results summarised:
1. The DC93, when using the aliased panel (default B737) even with the aeromusica sound package, everything works fine. When I use the special panel for the DC93 there are no cockpit or external sounds until the power goes beyond 50%.
2. If using the special panel for the DC93 (when I have no sounds) and then I load any other aircraft that always worked fine, the latter suffers the same problem as the DC93 and no sound is heard in the cockpit or external view (for those "any" other aircraft) until the FS2004 is closed completely and reloaded again.
To reach these results I have made several crossed checks with sounds and panels and several aircraft. It appears, in my opinion, that I have some problem with the "hjg_dc9-panel-core-files v1.1" or the "hjg dc-9-30 jt8d-17 panel v1". The only thing I can try is to re-download those files from HJG web site and try a new re-install.
Regards and thanks,
Lluis

Good evening, The only thing I can try is to re-download those files from HJG web site and try a new re-install. I've done it without any improvement. As last try, I will delete all DC93 folders and will re-install all files related with this aircraft. :-( Regards, Lluís

I don't doubt you're experiencing some problem with the HJG DC9 simulation (when using the customized panels at least) .... BUT .... whatever's causing your particular problem does seem to be localized to your own system/installation dpecifically.
Just quickly reviewing the very basic facts as recently communicated by you .... and then re clarified by me ....
1.
2.
3.
The "BOTTOM-LINER" here (for me at least) is, you say, everything/the DC9 ran fine "PRIOR" to whatever happened to result in your, apparently, needing to format your system and impose re installation of the DC9 simulation. So then .... "SOMETHING" has obviously happened/gone very wrong "SOMEWHERE" between then and now .... and I'm certain "THERE-IN" (your reformat and reinstallatioN) is, possibly, where part of your problem (if not the entirety of it) is/may be located.
I do need you to review your own installation procedure ("AGAIN" .... if necessary) to be absolutely certain this is being performed "strictly in accordance with the following prescribed/recommended procedures" ....

Are your soundcard driver(s) updated during the re-install? Or in any way different now from before the reformatting? Do you have any new sound-related installs different from previous?

Hi Dan, Are your soundcard driver(s) updated during the re-install? Or in any way different now from before the reformatting? Do you have any new sound-related installs different from previous? No, my sond drivers are the same as before and there is no difference at all regarding sound configuration. I have two 5.1 soundcards and have benn using this "dual" system for years; when flying the aircraft sounds go to the loudspeakers and the communications to controllers go to the earphones. When controlling, the communication to aircraft go to the loudspeakers and the intercom chat to other controllers go to the earphones. The reason for the reformat has been the Nvidia graphic cards: I have two GeForce 9800 GTX+ in SLI and both windows 7 and Nvidia remind me to update the drivers. Big error !!! After a lot of "Blue Screens Of Death" (BSOD) I could find that the Nvidia drivers are not completely removed when a new driver is installed and this causes severe software incompatibility problems with itself. There is a way to solve this problem using a powerful driver cleaner, but I discovered it once my system was unrecoverable. If the economic crisis allows, my next computer will use again the ATI graphic cards. Thank you for your interest Dan. Now I am going to answer Mark's post. Regards, Lluis
