The HJG B717-200 simulation has been available since 2010 .... as have the greater majority of textures for it too.
No such problem has ever been previously reported with relgard this particular simulation (so far as I'm aware) .... and as past forum qposting will testify.
I suspect your problem may be restricted to the panel which you're using .... and possibly your use of the AP system represented within it. Normally .... the only reason why a problem like that which, you say, you're experiencing, might occur is (1) if the AP was not selected "ON"/engaged .... and/or .... (2) if an AP target altitude along with AP ROC values were not selected "and then activated/enghaged".
What panel are you actually using .... and where did you get it ?
PLEASE NOTE THOUGH .... HJG does not offer its own FSX specific B717-200 panel. For this reason the default FSX HJG B717-200 panel assignment is/should be aliased to the default FSX B737-800. The B717-200 panel currently offered by HJG is for FS2004 use only. HJG can only provide FS2004 and FSX support for HJG hosted panel offerings.

Thanks for the reply Mark I'm using the default Airbus 737 panel as that was the one I got when I downloaded the file so I used the default panel which was in the folder, I always make sure that I pre-program my altitude at take off & engage my autopilot once I have taken off.

AIRBUS 737 .... ? I ptesume you mean the default BOEING 737-800 .... right ! Again .... there's no such known issue with this simulation .... in either FSX or FS2004 .... using either the HJG hosted B727-200 panel in FS2004 or the default FSX specific B737-800 panel assignment in FSX. "That's fine" .... BUT .... in engaging the AP after T/O I trust you're also then activating the Climb/Descent (ROC/ROD) function and which is normally (in most FS panels) a separate part/tab on the AP. Failing to do this .... is "the only thing", I can think of that would, likely, result in what, you say, you're experiencing. Mark C AKL/NZ
