I cannot get any of the switches on the DC9 glare shield to work in FS9. Master Caution, lights, Flt Director mode select, altitude select, and altitude hold.......I've clicked everywhere around the glare shield on each switch to see if there is a hidden hot spot, but no dice. All the other switches on the overhead and in the other windows work find. Any ideas?

They all ("EVERYTHING") work fine and nothing's hidden .... absolutely no question/doubt about that. The simulation is fully FS2004 compatible. It isn't FSX compatible though .... HJG supplied/recommended DC9 panels only in this particular case. And they function fine within WINDOWS XP and 7 OS environments (and everything else from around this period) .... I don't know about WINDOWES 8 and 9 though. I presume you're using the DC9 panels and gauges/core files provided by HJG .... and downloaded from none other than this website. I also presume you're using the HJG supplied DC9 FDE too .... an that you haven't been tempted to employ any non-standard/non-HJG recommended edits either. Have you installed the panel correctly .... "strictly in accordasnce with the prescribed installation procedures" I mean ? Have you also configured the panel (systems) correctly too .... in accordance with my recommended panel systems configuration procedures/tutorial as outlined within "SECTION 2" of my following "DC9 PANELS - INSTAKLLATION & HANDLING NOTES" .... tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/thread/3435/hjg-panel-installation-handling-notes2 scenarios are provided within the above tutorial .... for both engines running and cold/dark engine startup situations and both of which cover the correct/recommended panel systems configuration also. It's "ODD" that, you say, the OH panel switches are all operative .... yet those on the MP (part of it .... I understand) apparently aren't. Almost every switch represented within the HJG suplied DC9 panels is "selectable" and has "a function". Beyond possibly some form of corrupted download, or, installed utility conflict, or, other potential OS based conflict too, I've never heard of any situation that might frustrate this operability. You better provide your system specification .... and .... maybe outline precisely how you've installed everything also .... please. Mark C AKL/NZ

Again .... I can't speak for WINDOWS 8 compatibility.
And unfortunately .... nothing you've communicated, so far, is sufficient to, possibly, give me (at least) any idea as to what the cnature of the problem, you say, you're experiencing .... and I do say that with the knowledge of there being no such known issues/previosly reported/experienced in regard to any of these DC9 simulations/panels.
I pose just one question to you though .... in that there are 2 important DLL files which make up the modules component of these DC9 panels.
These are the FSSOUND.DLL .... and the GAUGESOUND.DLL.
Precisely where you have installed each of these 2 DLL files ?
Please advise !

The FSSOUND.dll file was placed in the FS2004 "Modules" folder. The Gaugesound.dll was placed in the root FS2004 folder and the the FS9 config file edited to add "[OLDMODULES] FSSound.dll=1"
Just another piece of info. Both the DC-9-30 with -17 engine panel and the DC-9-10 wth -7 engines have no function whatsoever on the glare shield switches. The switch for the anti-collision lights on the overhead panel for the -30 works. On the -10, the switch clicks, but does not move or turn the lights on'

More info for you after trouble shooting. The 727 panels are doing the same thing. All the switches on the glare shield do not move, click, or anything else. However, I was able to turn the flight director on from the landing view window on the 727 and then use the FD. SOmething is obviously conflicting with these gauges/switches.

Thanks for responding to my DLL installation query .... for the DC9 panels. You "HAVE" got these in the "right place" (confirmed) .... but I had to ask you that question all the same. Given that you, now, say you're experiencing a very similar issue with the B727 panels too .... I'd (hazarding a guess only) say that it's looking quite probable that you may, indeed, have some degree of conflict with these files on your system. Precisely what that conflict may be .... or if it's WINDOWS 8 related .... I simply couldn't say/don't know Mark C AKL/NZ

I don't believe this is a Windows 8 related issue as far as the operating system goes. The 727 panels worked fine until I installed the DC-9 panels. Whether this is related to those being installed or coincides with something else being installed and the registry being changed, I don't know. It might be time to un-install and reinstall FS2004 to see if that fixes the problem.

I'd actually forgotten about that So far as I'm aware/has been proven over the years .... no negative interaction arises from installing both the B727 and DC9 panels/gauges installed together. I have installed evey single panel/gauges set, currently offered by HJG, and use all of these together and with "a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y no problem/s w-h-a-t-s-o-e-v-e-r". Dan makes a what could, possibly, be a very relevent point per one of his replies to that particular ealier thread .... in regard to checking that one has full ADMINISITRATOR RIGHTS over ones OS and in relation to certain gauges ..... .... and again also in regard to screen resolution size ....and which is a check also recommended by Walter too. I can state that the DC9 panels are best not used beyond a certain resolution. During 2009 2 issues were reported in regard these particular panels and which were eventually traced to screen size resultion (I don't recall that this particular issue resulted in frozen panel switches though). It's possible that you may currently be using a resolution that's not compatible with the DC9 panels .... and which may also exceed that preferrable for the B727 panels also .... "at a guess" Check both of these details please. Mark C AKL/NA

I will check both of those, although I have made zero changes in my screen resolution. I am running FS2004 as the administrator each time I start it. I'm not sure if that's what Dan is referencing. I also don't know what he means by disabling the UAC.

Do check those screen resolutions .... and you're probably going to need to experiment with a number of settings in regard to these in order to be able to determine whether or not this is actually causing, or even contributing, to your particular issue. This a long shot .... bUT .... I don't suppose you've forgotten to apply the following OLDmODULES edit to your FS9.CFG file in support of the FSSOUND.DLL .... by any remote chance/possibility [OLDMODULES] FSSound.dll=1 Beyond what I've suggested to to date .... I'm really out of my depth here/with this one .... I reget to say This "IS", indeed, a "VERY RARE" (almost unheard of) issue .... it seems Mark C AKL/NZ

Everything is installed correctly and where it should be. The FS9 config has been edited. After experimenting with all the FS9 display settings, the ONLY way I can get the glare shield switches to work is to run FS9 in full-screen mode (ALT-ENTER), and only then in only some of the display settings do the switches work. I have no idea what has changed that things suddenly are not working other than something being installed that I am not aware of that is causing a problem with how FS9 is drawing the panels and the associated gauges.

I didn't suggest it hadn't been, but, "HAD TO" ask in regrad the OLDMODULES CFG edit anyway .... merely to eliminate any possibility of the FS9.CFG, maybe, having been deleted and then auto-regenerated .... as some folk do as part of their own troubleshooting process They're supposed to be run in "FULL SCREEN" mode .... but having said that .... all switches (etc) should still work perfectly in a WINDOW mode too. I presume you're rferring to screen resolution when mentioning display settings ? "IF SO" .... then using FULL SCREEN mode (ALT + ENTER) .... you're probably going to need to find, and apply, the maximum screen resolution applicable to these panels in order to promote the functionality of everything, but which, shouldn't impose any problems at all. Given these latest revelations .... we may .... possibly .... now be about to make progress Mark C AKL/NZ
