OK Peter, no worries of course! Regards, Jim Those Whisperstars were one of the strange footnotes in the EA story. EA got the 1st one (N518L) as part of the compensation package for the delays on the L1011. It was originally assigned to pilot transfer duties but was quickly sold for a profit. The second one (N12241, in the pic you linked) was acquired in 1971, and fitted out as an executive shuttle. Ended up being a major bone of contention when EA unionized pilots were not flying them, and that they were being used to ferry Executives to the Bahamas for weekend get aways while the IAM was on the verge of striking... they quietly stopped flying it in 1972, one of it's last duties was to ferry people between MIA and DC for the EA401 investigation. It was sold in March of 73 and left ATL for Opa Locka where its blue stripes were quickly painted over. If you want an even more unusual EA jet... theres always the "Whisperfang" (unofficial name) Never wore Eastern titles, but did wear the EA hockeystick! Only lasted about 14 months with EA.

If you want an even more unusual EA jet... theres always the "Whisperfang" (unofficial name) Which plane and why was it called Whisperfang?? Pilots were vampires??

Its a Saberjet 60. So Saber...toothed tiger?... Fang... shrug on that one but that's what I've seen it called in more than one instance. Oh and BTW, the "210" on it... it was also at the 1967 Paris Air Salon along with N8778/209

Last EA -61... N8765 circa 1970, I changed the reg i was going to do 8771 but 765 shows it basically the same and lets me break up the registrations a bit more evenly over the EA -61 fleet. Just with #2s doors, without forward windows, with forward positioned flag... High Res 1High Res 2

Never wore Eastern titles, but did wear the EA hockeystick! Only lasted about 14 months with EA. I was in that lucky 14 months when I hired on to EAL in late 1966. As a 600 hour pilot with no jet experience I was given 10 hours of dual in this airplane, mostly using the power settings of I disagreeigned aircraft, the Boeing 727, as my introduction to jets. I never did get to fly it as itself, unfortunately, but had a great time nonetheless. If memory serves, the instructors were EAL who were former USAF T-39 pilots; they showed me a few fun tricks but not for me to try. I think a good time was had by all.

Very nice to hear about! I've never been able to find anyone that actually flew the Saberliner... A couple that flew on the original Jetstar and one that fueled the second one a few times BEFORE he was an EA mechanic... I am aware that one of the instructors was a test pilot from McDonnell earlier in his career from that era, test flew the Banshee among other things.
