A couple of new files from Tony .... each representing Dc9-30 aircraft in resoponse to recent forum requests and as follows ....
ALLEGHENY AIRLINES DC9-31 N969VJ (1978)
ALLEGHENY AIRLINES is regarded, by many as being of the "great classic" in US airline history.
It was the foreunner of US AIRWAYS .... which can be traced back to the ALL AMERICA AVIATION COMPANY which commenced air mail and PAX operations on March 7th 1939.
This airline was then renamed ALL AMERICAN AIRWAYS during 1949 .... and then ALLEGHENY AIRLINES on January 1st 1953.
As well as being one of the great US classic airlines/operators .... throughout its long history of successful development and growth the airlines fleet has comprised of some of the worlds gretest classic aircraft types also .... among which included the B727 (-100 and -200), BAC ONE-ELEVEN, CV540, CV340, CV440, CV580, DC3, DC9 (-30 and -50), F27 and FH227, and NORD 262.
The airline acquired LAKE CENTRAL AIRLINES during 1968 followed by MOHAWK AIRLINES during 1972 .... and which contributed to its growth.
The late 1970's deregulation of the US airline industry enabled ALLEHENY AIRLINES to dispense with its regional carrier status and expand further into the US domestic air route system. This saw the airline rebranded as US AIR on Otober 28th 1979 .... then later US AIRWAYS.
The airlines ALLEGHENY COMMUTER brand was initially retained but also later rebranded US AIRWAYS EXPRESS.
Since 2012 the operations of both US AIRWAYS and AMERICAN AIRLINES have been progressively merged/integrated .... a process which is expected to be completed during 2015 and under a single operating certificate .... and which will then result in one of the western worlds largest airlines.
GRAND AIRWAYS DC9-32 N1271L (1994)
GRAND AIRWAYS DC9-32 N5324L (1995)
GRAND AIRWAYS commenced operations during 1990 as a small air taxi service flying tourists from GLas Vegas to Grand Canyon using CESSNA 402's .... and later METROLINER's.
DC9-30's were acquired by the mid 1990's .... and the airlines services extended to Atlanta, Dallas FW, Grand Canyon, Houston, Oakland, Pheonix, Palm Sprimgs .... with occasional charter services over the border and to Los Cabo, Mexico.
The airline, by the mid 1990's, seemed to develop a fairly checkered financial reputation/history .... failing to pay landing fees, fuel bills, and various insurances too.
GRAND AIRWAYS eventually filed for CHAPTER 11 bancruptsy on November 28th 1995 .... and then finally ceased operations on January 4th 1996.
