First post on the forum,so firstly would like to thank hjg for some great aircraft and excellent help on your website forum. I have used many of your planes without any problems (using FSX) ,these up to now have been aircraft which have only one base pack for all the textures i needed, but now would like to download some dc-9-10 planes. This may be the most basic question that is obvious to everyone else but how do i know which base pack goes with which texture? as there are 3 base packs at the top of the texture download section for the dc-9-10, am i missing something obvious ?

"TECHNICALLY SPEAKING" .... one can use any of the aircraft base pack version they wish for any of the DC9 liveries represented in each indiviadual aircraft section. HOWEVER .... If one wants accurate/authentic aircraft base pack/livery matches (there's a lot of variation among each version of the DC9's .... and sometimes among the these aircraft versions operated within some airline fleets too .... and we/HJG simply see fit to provide all of the best/major options), then, this requires the end-user undertake "their own" research .... since each aircraft base pack version is MGW and power/engine thrust specific .... resulting in slight flight performance variations accordingly. What particular DC9 aircraft versions are you wanting to fly ?
What particular airline liveries for these DC9 aircraft versions are you wanting to install ?Provide me with the aircraft type version, airline livery, and most importantly the "actual aircraft registration" too .... and I'll look these up on my production/development records, and advise you of your best options accordingly Be advised though .... since I note you say you're an FSX user .... The HJG DC9 aircraft base packs are/should be FSX portable .... HOWEVER .... the DC9 panel options provided by HJG "ARE NOT" FSX portable. There is/are supposedly FSX portable versions of some of these panels available from FLIGHTSIM.COM, but, these are neither produced nor supported by us/HJG .... and my underrstanding is some features "DO NOT" function correctly (in FSX) within these other options anyway. The DC9 soundpacks provided by us will work in FSX, but, "ARE NOT" tailored specififcally for it (to take advantage of the FSX audio engine) .... since they're both FS2004 based. The HJG supplied DC9 smoke effects "ARE" FSX portable .... but .... when installing your DC9 aircraft base packs then be sure to activate the FSX specific AIRCRAFT.CFG. The same FSX specific CFG activation will also apply too if you'tre plabbnning to use default FSX type panel and sound options. I digress into these details because it does occasionally "trip-up" some folk Mark C AKL/NZ

''TECHNICALLY SPEAKING''... WOW... that's a proper answer, i now know exactly how the system works AND all the other sound/panel/ porting details.I didn't realise that the various aircraft were so detailed in their individual identities.I will try a couple of textures as a trial and see how i get on,i won't try to be to specific about exactly matching engines/registrations to their matching textures, so no endless hours checking on production/development records for you or, me although i do appreciate your offer ,always found that trial and error (with fsx) teaches you about all kinds of other things in the sim and add-on aircraft.Once again thanks for a really helpful comprehensive explanation.

It's good that you're prepared to "TRY" .... God loves triers .... and so do I As I mentioned yesterday .... Each DC9 aircraft pack is weight and engine thrust specific (for both FS2004 and FSX users) .... and just as the DC9 panels are each aircraft type/engine thrust specific also (for FS2004 users only I'm afrauid)) What that "basically" means is .... the various aircraft performances all differ slightly .... provided they're configutred and flown correctly to start with of course Again .... if you need specific aircraft base pack/airline livery matches, then, just give me the "aircraft registration and livery" .... and I'can look it from there since I've got all of that informatio right at my fingertips. In most cases it wouldn't take me 5 minutes .... and is part of the support/servive I try to provide for those needing advice/assistance with any of our simulations. Not a problem Mark C AKL/NZ
