Presenting more nice new Nordic (and other) subjects .... composed of both new additions, as well as extensions, to our flightline of SAS Viking Ships in particular .... featuring the LN, OY, and SE registrations not previously represented among the SAS period liveries for the MD81's, -82's, -83's, 97's, and 90-30's .... given that SAS is, after all, representative of 3 Scandinavian nations (Denmark, Norway, and Sweden), thus, 3 different civil air regsisters. This is a follow-on of HJG's established practice of representing SAS airlines period liveries covering "each of the 3 different registers" that make up this particular airline .... and just as has been represented, to date, among HJG's SAS and SCANAIR inventories for the CARAVELLE's, DC8's, and DC9's. Any LN, OY, or SE registrations not represented among the SAS/SCANAIR aircraft previewed below are either already available/downloadable at HJG .... or .... simply did not exist among the period liveries represented. HJG community artist Carl POUL BRAGER (aka "CABRAG") has knocked these together for us all .... Just added a couple of "LN" and "SE" registered "SUNJETS" .... in the form of SCANAIR operated MD82's and MD83's of the 1990's. There appear to have been no "OY" registered MD80's among the 6 MD80 aircraft operated by SCANAIR These particular b-e-a-u-t-i-e-s have all been painted by HJG community paintar Carl POUL BRAGER. And here's a little trivia about each of the operators so far represented above .... since I didn't have time to present all of this dinformation previously .... BLUE 1 AIRLINES, of Finland, was formed during 1987 .... and commenced operations, as AIR BOTNIA, during 1988 .... flying EMB BANDEIRANTE, and CESSNA 402 aircraft on cargo and PAX services between Helsinki, Kauhajoki, and Seinäjoki .... and which were suplemented by BAe J31 aircraft during 1993. A major financial crisis during 1995 saw BRITISH AEROSPACE repossess the J31's .... bringing the airline to the brink of bankruptsy .... and resulting in major service restructuring. SAS acquired the airline during January 1998 .... and re-equipped it with SAAB 340's .... and F28's from 1999 .... followed by AVRO RJ75's and SAAB 2000's from 2001. The airline was renamed BLUE 1 AIRLINES during January 2004. It joined the STAR ALLIANCE during November 2004 .... and became an SAS affiliate from November 2012. From 2005 BLUE 1 AIRLIES became the 2nd largest airline in Finland and the most frequent operator between that country and Scandinavian ports .... and from 2006 extended its route netwok into Europe, then the UK from 2009, and to Biarritz, Dubrovnik, Lapland, and Split from 2009. Since 2004 the airline has operated a total of 4 ATR-72, 9 B717-200, 5 MD90-30, 11 RJ75, and 5 SAAB 340 aircraft. CONAIR OF SCANDINAVIA was a Danish charter airline established by Simon SPICS. It commenced operations during 1965 .... using DC7 aircraft and serviced tourist holiday destuinations within the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands, Gambia, London, Rome, and Paris from both Copehagen, and Stockholm on behalf of SPICS TRAVEL and other tourist travel agencies. The airline entered the jet age during the early 1970's when it acquired the first of 5 turbojet powered B720's (OY-DSK, OY-DSL, OY-DSM, OY-DSP, and OY-DSR) .... and which were replaced by 3 fanjet powered B720-B's (OY-APU, OY-APV, and OY-APW) from the late 1970's. During the 1980's CONAIR acquired 3 wide-body A300B's (OY-CNA, OY-CNK, and OY-CNL) and a single A310 (OO-SCB) .... and which were followed into service by 6 A320's from 1991. Other aircraft were occasionally leased-in too .... and included a B737-300 from MAERSK AIR (OY-MMF) during 1990 .... and an EAGLE AIR OF ICELAND DC8-61 (TF-ISB) between December 1985 until January 1986. CONAIR was merged with the SAS tourist/charter subsidiary SCANAIR during January 1990 to form PREMIAIR .... and which later became the Kastrup based THOMAS COOK AIRLINES SCANDINAVIA. SCANAIR was the holiday/charter subsiduary of SCANDINAVIAN AIRLINE SYSTEM. It was founded in during June 1961 and commenced services to North Africa, Spain, and the USA .... using DC7's. From 1965 the airlines operational base was moved from Denmark to Sweden .... and throughout the 1960's, 70's, and 80's a number of DC8's (-33's, -55's, -62's, and -63's) were leased from parent company SAS .... followed by a single B727-100 which also saw sercice with SCANAIR during the late 1970's .... as the company quickly become Scandinavias largest charter airline. SCANAIR serviced year-round and summertime tourist meccas such as the Canary Islands, Sri-Lanka, and Thailand .... as well as the Austrian, German, and Swiss winter tourist resorts .... and by the 1980's was carrying in excess of 2 million PAX per year. During the 1980's A300B's were acquired, but, due to their range limitations were replaced with DC10's (both -10's and -30's) from the late 1980's/early 1990's .... along with B747's (both -100's and -200's) during the same period also. MD80's (-82's and -83's) entered service with SCANAIR from the early 1990's. Despite its many years of service the airline failed to return a profit and was merged into CONAIR OF SCANDINAVIA on January 1st 1990 .... to form PREMIAIR AIRLINES. SCANDINAVIAN AIRLINE SYSTEM needs little, if any, introduction/explanation .... given that it's Scandinavias most prominent and long serving airline as well as being representative of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. This airline can trace its origins back to the formation SVENSK INTERKONTINENTAL LUFTRAFIK .... a joint Danish/Norwegian aviation venture established during 1946 .... and which was joined by AEROTRANSPORT of Sweden during 1948 .... to result in the tri-partite nation airline/air services relationship we know today as SAS. The airline has since launched an extensive network of regional and international serices which have seen it operate an impressive fleet of aircraft over the years .... composed of DC4 (1946-56), DC3 (1948-57), VC1-B VIKING (1948-49), JU52-3M 1948-56), S25 SANDRINGHAM 4 (1948-51), DC6(1948-60), SAAB 90-A2 SCANDIA (1950-58), DC6-B (1952-61), DC7-C (1956-67), CV440 (1956-76), VISCOUNT 700D (1959-61), SE-210 CARAVELLE 1A/3 (1959-74 .... the airlines first jet equipment), DC8-33 (1960-71), CV990-A (1962-66 .... jointly operated with THAI AIRWAYS INTERNATIONAL), DC8-55 (1965-71), DC9-32 (1967-68), BAC ONE-ELEVEN 300AG (1967-68), DC8-62 (1967-87), DC8-63 (1958-88 .... including the last production DC8 L/N # 556 SE-DBL), DC9-41 (1968-02), DC9-21 (1968-00), DC9-33F (1969-88), B747-200B (1971-87), B747-200B SCD (1971-87), DC10-30 (1974-91), A300B-2 (1980-84). DC9-51 (1983-90), F27 (1984-90), MD81 (1985-10), MD82 (1985-13), MD83 (1988-05), MD87 (1988-12), F50 1990-10), B767-300ER (1989-04), B767-200ER (1990-93), F28-1000 (1993-97), F28-4000 (1993-99), B737-500 (1993-13), MD90-30 (1996-2008), SAAB 2000 (1997-current), B737-600 (1997-current), B737-700 (199-current), B737-800 (2000-current), DHC8-Q400 (2000-07), A321-200 (2001-current), A320-200 (2001-current), A340-300X (2001-current), A330-200 (2001-current), A330-300 (2001-01 .... a 3 month lease only prior to A330-300 deliveries), A330-300 (2002-current), B737-400 (2004-13), A319-100 (2006-current), ARJ-70 (2006-06 .... operated by WDL AVIATION on Stockholm/London City route), BAe 145-300 (2008-09 .... operated by WDL AVIATION on Stockholm/London City route), BAe 146-200 (2008-10 .... operated by WDL AVIATION on Stockholm/London City route), CRJ-800 (2008-current), ATR72-600 (2013-current, and B737-7/BBJ (2013-current) aircraft. And in the immediate future .... A320-200 NEO and A350-900 XWB aircraft are scheduled for delivvery to SAS from 2015 and 2017 respectively. SPANAIR was established during December 1986. The airline was a originally joint-venture between SAS (94% owned) and VIAJES MARSANS. It commenced operations during March 1988 .... flying European tourist charters. Long-haul services to the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and the USA commenced from 1991 .... and to Buenos Aires from 1993 .... followed by scheduled services within Spain, and Europe, from 1994. The airline became a STAR ALLIANCE member from May 2003. During January 2009 SAS sold its majority shareholding in SPANAIR to CONORCI DE TURISME DE BARCELONA and CATALANA D'INICIATIVES. From 2011 the airline was impacted by a major financial crisis .... which was unaided by the loss of one of its MD80's in a high profile accident at Madrid .... and eventually suspended operations on January 27th 2012 after financial negotiations between it and QATAR AIRWAYS failed to result in a rescue package. Throughout its operational years SPANAIR leased a total of 105 aircraft over different periods/durations .... with its fleet having been composed of 19 A320-200, 5 A321-200, 4 B717-200, 6 B757-200, 3 B767-300, 1 DC9-50, 3 F100, 3 MD81, 16 MD82, 27 MD83, 18 MD87 aircraft .... which serviced the airlines Spanish domestic, European regional, and long-haul service network. Having presented most of what's intended to be previwed with this particular thread .... I'd like to introduce Carl POUL BRAGER (aka "CABRAG") who's the artist responsible for each of the above texture subjects .... as well as those presented within the following 3 threads on this forum page .... "A Short-Lived Hellenic Operated Mad Dog" tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/thread/7545/short-lived-hellenic-operated-mad"Some Nice New Nordic Additions" tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/thread/7488/nice-new-nordic-additions"A Darned Good (and new) Danish DC8" tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/thread/7503/darned-good-new-danish-dc8.... and all of which will be included within the next HJG website update. Carl's from Denmark. He's currently in his 70's .... which is quite incredible really .... and goes to show that FS, and FS graphics in paricular, aren't strictly the reserve or hobby of solely the younger or even middle aged set among us. He worked within MAERSK AIR during the 1970's .... and has specialised in FS graphics since the MSFS98 days .... and he also dabbles in MS TRAIN SIMULATOR work as well. As may be demostrated by each of the above (and above-linked) previews .... Carl's work is "ABSOLUTELY TOP KNOTCH" .... and I think we can look forward to seeing more of the fruits of his labours released here, at HJG, in the near future. "THANKS" Carl .... for each of these magnificent contributions to the HJG inventory Mark C AKL/NZ.

Just added (to the above presentation) another MD82 subject with an SAS connections .... in the form of MD82 LN-ROS "Isulv Viking" which was operated by the short-lived SNOWFLAKE AIRLINES during 2004. SNOWFLAKE AIRLINES was a low-cost tourist/leisure subsidiary of SCANDINAVIAN AIRLINE SySTEM. It commenced operations on March 19th 2003 flying limited frequency point-to-point services to destinations not served by SAS group affiliate .... using a fleet of 2 SAS B737-800's (LN-RCX and LN-RPN) .... which were later replaced with 2 SAS MD82's (LN-ROS and LN-ROU). From both Copenhagen and Stockholm the airline launched seasonal services to Alicante, Ankara, Athens, Barcelona, Beiruit, Belgrade, Bilbao, Bologna, Budapest, Dublin, Inverness, Istanbul, Lisbon, Lyon, Málaga, Nice, Olbia, Palma De Mallorca, Prague, Pristina, Rome, Sarajevo, Skopje, Split, Luqa, and Venice. As an intended low cost operator SNOWFLAKE AIRLINES was unsuccessfful in keeping costs below thatits SAS parent company .... and failed to operate profitably. This .... combined with the impact of a sharp decline in PAX traffic during 2004 .... resulted in the airline ceasing operations on October 31st 2004 .... after little more than a year of service. This particular MD82 .... LN-ROS .... was C/N # 49421 .... L/N # 1263 .... which first flew on March 11th 1986. It was first delivered to SAS (SE-DFU "Isulv Viking") on March 2st 1986. Leased to SCANAIR (SE-DFU "Bambi") - April 1st 1992. Retuned ti SAS (SE-DFU "Isulv Viking") - Novemnber 1ist 1992. Leased to RENO AIR (N841RA) - April 1st 1993. Returned to SAS (SE-DFU "Isulv Viking") - February 12th 1998 .... and re-registered "LN-ROS" - December 14th 1999. Transferred to SNOWFLAKE AIRLINES (LN-ROS "Isulv Viking") - March 10th 1994. Transferred to SAS (LN-ROS "Isulv Viking") - December 6th 2006 .... and re-registered "SE-DFU" - December 11th 2009. Sold to ALLEGIANT AIRLINES (N424NV) - May 25th 2010 .... and modified to "MD-83" specification - January 2012. CURRENT STATUS = "IN SERVICE". This subject has been painted for us by Carl POUL BRAGER .... "THANKS ONE AGAIN" Carl .... "MUCH APPRECIATE" Mark C AKL/NZ

Just added another one .... in the form of NORDIC LEISURE - NECKERMANN REISEN (sponsored) MD90-30 SE-DMH of 2005. This MD90-30 (SE-DMH "Torolf Viking", C/N # 5343 L/N # 2194) was operated by NORDIC LEISURE AIRWAYS .... sponsored by NECKERMANN REISEN between May 2005 and March 2006 .... under an SAS lease. Nordic Airways was based in Stockholm, Sweden. It operated charter and wet lease type services .... which included tourist/charter flights on behalf of AIRTOURS, APOLLO and NECKERMANN REISEN agencies, as well as ACMI flights for SAS, GERMANWINGS, STERLING AIRWAYS, LTE INTERNATIONAL, AIR COMET, and CENTRALWINGS. The airline evolved from the privately owned REGULJAIR .... formed during 1996 .... and which became NORDIC AIRLINK during 2001. FINNAIR acquired 85% of the company during 2004 and split it into 2 separate units to form the airlines low cost FLYNORDIC subsidiary .... and the private NORDIC LEISURE .... and which, from 2006, operated scheduled domestic/regional services to 5 destinations and 1 international route under the NORDIC REGIONAL banner. The airline operated leased MD81 (SE-DMH), MD82 (SE-RDR), MD83 (SE-RDM, SE-RGO, SE-RGP), MD87 (SE-RBA), and MD90-30 (SE-DMH, SE-DMF) aircraft at different intervals. From January 2003 the NORDDIC AIRWAYS title was adopted for both NORDIC LEISURE and NORDIC REGIONAL operations. On January 24th 2009 the carriers operating certificate was suspended due to its weak financial status .... and its services then succeeded by AIR SWEDEN, but, which also ceased operations during September 2011. "THANKS" once again to Carl POUL BRAGER for this great contribution .... "NICE WORK" Carl Mark C AKL/NZ
