Hello,
Not entirely sure where to post this
I was curious to know if I could be allowed to paint a Boeing 707-320B Adv in the colors of Pan Am in 1970 (with the original small pan am titles like on their 747's). Would be allowed and how could I go about doing that?
Thanks,
Chris

Chris, you can paint it using a standard model and creating your own textures but we would not want it to be on a website for download unless it is your textures only and does not include the model etc, read the EULA on the forum which should explain everything Best wishes Tony

Hi Mark, Thanks much for your in depth post There's a single livery that is missing though, and it's a bit fundamental 'to me.' This one, with the 60's style font reading 'Pan Am' and the 60's style blue globe, introduced on the 747's in 1970. The one's above have the thicker 76 - 85 Pan Am lettering and the new blue globe logo.

I think if you look at the photo the Pan Am lettering is different from the HJG representations. The letters are not joined, but a little further apart.

That's exactly right Herman. The logos look different, along with a few other smaller variations. I would sure love to give painting it a try.

There was a bit of minor variation in the "PAN AM" font style used during the 1970's. Again .... Jim's B707-320B ADV texture (N418PA 1976) seems to be the closest match "currently offered" by us .... BUT .... if he/Jim, or any of our other painters for that matter, wish to crank out another (or other) variation/s of PAN AMERICAN/PAN AM liveries, in the interest of historical representation (which is what HJG's all about), .... THEN .... I'm easy No promises though "CHRIS34" .... since it's up to guys .... of course Mark C AKL/NZ

The only other thing that I notice when looking at Chris's photo is that the blue cheat line and black anti-glare paint does not extend over the top of the nose of the aircraft as shown on other Pan Am paint schemes.

HMMM .... in regard to what we portray ....
Looking at the fuselage stripe/window line in the actual/real world photo and comparing its features with what we've presented .... that particular detail could also, possibly, be the result of minor liberties that are sometimes forced upon painters by "little inaccuracies" within the 3D models .... since "all" FS madels have these to some extent.

I know I am only nit-picking a bit, but I think what I was trying to say is that along with the change from the earlier Pan American livery to the later PAN AM livery another small change occurred in that the blue window cheat line extension over the nose of the aircraft was eliminated on the later PAN AM livery as shown in the HJG 707 images below. The real world photo also reflects this change. Herman

OH NO .... I wouldn't regard it as being "nit picking" at all Quite the contrary really .... in that, I think, it's a very good/fair observation "NICE" pictures Herman. Is that your back yard .... by any chance ? I'd love to have back that resembled that, but, "she who must be obeyed" wouldn't be too impressed (it'd probably piss-the-neighbours-off big time too) .... you see mi querida esposa Colombiana/my beloved Colombian wife "NO LIKE THIS THINGS" .... and that's a direct quote Mark C AKL/NZ

I try to be as ACCURATE as I can with my repaints, but as mark has aluded to we cannot always do what we would like due to the way the textures wrap the 3D models. its a balancing act, especially with these older versions of models plying the FS skies!
