Just on the subject of those mountains .... and the Katmandu approach generally ....
I recall back in 1992 .... a PAKISTAN INTERNATIONAL AIRWAYS A310, and a THAI AIRWAYS DOMESTIC A310 also, each flew into the sides of the foothills there, and within weeks of each other too, and with understandably catastrophic results for both aircraft and all aboard also .... there were "no survivors" from either wreck (a couple on New Zealanders were killed on the THAI aircraft). I think the instrument proedures applicable to flying into Katmandu were modified after these 2 closely-linked disasters.
