"ABSOLUTELY SPLENDID WORK" Benoit .... the soundpack/s .... as well as the videos too .... with portions of the latter "interior" presention being suitable (I feel) for use as a kind of audio/visual type manual for our DC-8´s .... the DC-8-70 SERIES panels (startup procedures) in this particular case.
This .... folks .... is the final installment of Benoit´s FS2004 and FSX specific audio upgrade of the entire HJG DC-8 sound inventory .... this particular soundpack representing the CFM-56 turbofan engines which were fitted to originally P&W JT3D powered DC-8-61 and -63 aircraft predominantly, along with a few DC-8-62 aircraft also, during the early to mid 1980´s .... ultimately converting these to DC-8-71. -72, and -73 aircraft.
As will be the case with each of Benoit´s other new DC-8 soundpacks .... separate FS2004 and FSX specific versions of this new CFM-56 audio will be released .... the FSX versions of these, in particular, taking advatage of the superior doppler audio effect promoted by the superior FSX sound engine.
Also .... there will be a "DC-8-72 specific soundpack" version of thi CFM-56 engine audio .... modified with "a litte extra" engine volume given the shorter fuselage of these aicraft and closer proximty of the flightdeck to the wing and engines .... just as has also been done in respect of the new JT3D-3B and JT3D-7 soundpcks for our DC-8-50, -61, -62, -62H, and -63 simulations respectively. All will be "clearly explained" (as usual) upon release.
The CFM re-engining program benfitted DC-8 SUPER 70 SERIES operators with signficantly improved fuel economy, reduced field length requirements, less noise and smoke emission (virtually smokeless), steeper climb and higher initial cruising altitude capabilities, along with substantially increased range .... although the original certified MGW/payload limitations of converted/re-engined DC-8 SUPER 71, -72, and -73 aircraft remained unchanged despite the greater power provided by the CFM turbofn engine.
on March 29th 1983, and Upon conclusion of a CAMMACORP marketing/sales tour through the UK, and Middle East, DC-8 SUPER 72 N8972U demonstrated the incredible range capabilities/improvwemts of these modified aircraft by flying Cairo/Los Angles .... "direct" .... a distance of some 8,300 miles .... in 15 hours and 45 minutes. Upon arrival at Los Angeles the aircraft still had sufficient fuel quantity remaining for at least another 1,000 miles of flight. This particular feat crowned the DC-8 SUPER 72 with a title of "the worlds longest ranging jetliner" .... at the time.
Not all conversions of DC-8 SUPER 60 SERIES aircraft were actually undertaken by CAMMACORP .... since AIR CANADA, DELTA, and UTA INDUSTRIES each undertook conversions of not only their own aircraft, but, were also contracted to convert those of other operators too. Some 110 DC-8 SUPER 61, -62, and -63 aircraft had been converted to DC-8 SUPER 71, -72, and -73 specification (53X DC-8 SUPER 71, 7X SUPER 72, and 50X SUPER 73 aircraft) by 1986 when CAMMACORP began to close-down its Tulsa/USA based conversion line. More DC-8 SUPER 61, -62, and -63 aircraft might have been converted had cheaper Hush-Kit/Quiet Nacelle modifications not become available .... and had the implementation of Stage 2 noise regulations not been extended until January 1st 2000.
This entire audio upgrade project has taken well in excess of 3 years to compile. Here´s a quick (forum) reference review of each of the new DC-8 soundpacks that HJG will soon be releasing ....

"THANKS ONCE AGAIN" Benoit
.... though I feel "thanks" is really too small an expression of our appreciation given the time, and effort, I´m only too conscious of your having applied to compiling this great audio update for the HJG DC-8´s "ao meticulously".
