"NICE" to see you flying the (our) flag Jim .... representing a subject literally thousands of miles to the south of your home. This's one I never imagined might interest you FOLKS .... this NZNAC DC-9-10 subject is "fictional" but (like Tony's recently previewed NZNAC BAC ONE-ELEVEN 400 also) it was once a serious contender for NZ domestic air routes during the mid to late 1960's, as NZNAC began planning the replacement of its VISCOUNT 808 turpbo-prop fleet with jet equipment As things came to pass .... NZNAC rejected both the BAC ONE-ELEVEN and DC-9-10 and selected the, then, "yet to be built" B737-200 .... on the strength of known B727-100 performance. It was "the right choice .... for NZ. Both the BAC ONE-ELEVEN and DC-9-10 were ultimately rejected by NZNAC due to the fact their slat-less wing configuration could not promote either aircraft being able to fly slowly (meaning comfortably) enough in the worst of Wellington city's legendary gale induced turbulence. Landing at Wellington/NZWL in these sorts of conditions has always been likened, by pilots, to be something akin to "an extreme sport" .... the airport being regarded by some, as well as by some PAX too, as being "one of" the worst places in the the world to try'n land an aircraft on, or at, or near during such extreme conditions. EXTREME (but otherwise workable) CONDITIONS AT NZWL .... often "an extreme sport" www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tV7AdKl5J0www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulpOM-B7sAsEXTREME (but otherwise workable) CONDITIONS AT NZWL .... from a PAX perspective www.youtube.com/watch?v=0exxEtpacJkwww.youtube.com/watch?v=kkq2s4NlYXgMark C AKL/NZ

This one "WILL" make the December/Christmas release .... thanks to the efforts of Jim CAMPISI .... "FICTIONAL" NZ NATIONAL AIRWAYS CORPORATION DC-9-10 (livery concept) circa 1967The above DC-9-10 (14) will join Tony's following ("earlier released/currently downloadable") and similarly "FICTIONAL" BAC ONE-ELEVEN 400 and which was the other unsuccessful contender for the NZNAC order .... which ultimately went to BOEING in favor of the B737-200 .... "FICTIONAL" NZ NATIONAL AIRWAYS CORPORATION BAC ONE-ELEVEN (livery concept) circa 1967Both of the above nearly happened (and are the sort of subjects our "FANTASY LIVERIES PAGE" is really intended for), but, ultimately didn't come to pass given that upon closer analysis it eventually became obvious what the B737-200 could do that both the DC-9-10 and BAC ONE-ELEVEN couldn't "within the NZ environment". The story about this jet war is as I earlier related above. The NZ government merged NZNAC into AIR NEW ZEALAND on April 1st 1977 (to save some 20 million 1970's taxpayer dollars .... almost the cost of a new DC-10-30 back then) .... both being state owned operators. Prior to 1977 AIR NEW ZEALAND flew international routes (only) to and from NZ, whilst NZNAC's operations were exclusively NZ domestic route oriented. "THANKS" Jim Mark C AKL/NZ

Great looking livery Jim, coincidently last night I was working on the NAC 146-200, I do like the simple but attractive livery of that airline
