Hi,
I came across this video on YT today. Some early jet action edited from movies of the time.
Most of the jet sound seems dubbed but apart from that its reasonably good quality.....
Forgive me if I've placed this in the wrong forum section.
Cheers, Robin

Not all dubbed sound .... it seems. The VARIG 990 segment, in particular, captures some of the "unique" audio characteristics of the GE CJ805-23 AFt-Fan Fanjet engines that powered these aircraft. Incidentally this particular audio's been "faithfully reproduced" in Benoit's "NEW", and soon to be released, CV990 sound pack/s .... and which are essentially reality transitioned into virtuality .... www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kcbt_FP6_RwMy best memories of ancient ramp activity though would have to be P&W JT3D-1/-3B air-starts associated with DC-8-50 engine startups (as per this startup video of a JAL SUPER 61 .... actually their last DC-8 flight I believe). Each engine usually had its own/a slightly different audio characteristic upon start up .... and which we called "the DC-8 mating call" youtu.be/P_USqwNZvoI?t=95Until one was "used to it"/that startup howl .... if one wasn't prepared or in anticipation of it, then, it could actually give one/some "a bit of a startle" More DC-8 ramp action/air delivery for startup .... this time a SUPER 62 and completely different engine (P&W JT3D-7) and starter though .... www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_MPBupcOIETest flying AIR NZ's first DC-8-52 .... www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVtllgMagVwO&W JT3D-1/-3B and D-7 powered DC-8's sounded just as good inside as they did outside from my memories .... having flown on both -52's and SUPER 63's. Couldn't find any DC-8 interior sound "from a cabin perspective" but this B707 video (same engine type) is virtually identical .... www.youtube.com/watch?v=EI3owgIj6zsMore ramp action nut much later technology that the DC-8's .... this time in the form of a GE CF6-0 powered DC-10-30 .... an "ENTIRELY" different and "UNIQUE" sound again .... www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuXXRB19brEwww.youtube.com/watch?v=BgIjfvOpLO4T/O aboard DC-10-30's was always an exceptionally powerful experience .... both the ears and other senses .... youtu.be/Z8njZIIAmf0?t=140I was fortunate enough to accumulate "A LOT" of PAX flying hours on both DC-8's and DC-10's during the 1970's, 80's, and into the early 90's. All classic aviation engine sounds that are now almost forgotten/a thing of the past (from the days when jetliners not only looked, but also, sounded like they should) .... or rather .... "now as much of a legend as the aircraft they once powered" Some of the best of my aviation related memories/experiences .... apart from the GRUMMAN WIDGEON and GRUMMAN GOOSE amphibians aboard which I was also privileged to regularly fly .... WIDGEON .... www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LfmKDm2THQ&t=201sGOOSE .... www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8EpAE6W3wk&t=92sAll gone (from here) now. I certainly miss my "splash-down" planes Mark C AKL/NZ

On the subject of long/almost forgotten (now) aviation sounds. Anyone here flown on the BAe 146 ? Anyone remember the "unique and very proniunced sound" (our cabin crews generally made an announcement to prepare PAX in order dispence with any aprehension among the inexperienced) that resulted when flaps were extended for landing .... www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_QT3Ec3uZQwww.youtube.com/watch?v=rKcgPh1CrwE"NOT" a mechanical sound. The sound was apparently generated as the result of airflow being redirected over, and around, both the wing and flap surfaces. We included this particular audio within our BAe and ARJ sound packs, BUT, it's has to be represented as "a mechanical sound" .... so it's (unfortunately) evident during flap extension for both TO (which is wrong of course) and landing, but, it's not possible to (easily) re-engineer it for just landing only.
