AS THE FOLLOWING COMMENT (by "UrLocal/Av/Geek" aka "UrLocalAbNerd" AND BOTH SUBSEQUENT REPLIES WERE POSTED WITHIN A SEEMINGLY UNRELATED THREAD I'VE MOVED THIS ENTIRE QUERY TO THIS SEPARATE AND PURPOSE INTENDED THREAD.
Wow these look really good! Just a question, where do you get these templates and what software do you use the make these liveries? - I'm new here.

This's a pretty old thread .... dated 2018 in fact .... but .... thanks for thinking enough of what's presented (I'm sure Erik will appreciate that since everything presented within this particular thread is "his own work") to want to enquire about it. "EVERYTHING" presented within this (now) old thread can be downloaded from our following-linked MAIN/OFFICIAL downloads page .... simviation.com/hjg/downloads.htmJust select the listed "AIRCRAFT TYPE" tabs in order to access each texture. The corresponding Aircraft Base Packs for each aircraft type are generally located at the very top of each individual aircraft type texture section .... some aircraft type texture download sections feature more than one version of the same aircraft sub type. Much further down our MAIN/OFFICIAL downloads page you'll find links for each aircraft type Panel and their supporting Gauges .... same also in regard to aircraft type Sound Packs as well. Just bear in mind each texture "MUST" be used with it's correct/intended/corresponding Aircraft Base Pack/Model, Panels, and Sounds .... or issues can result. The thing to do though, if one's not ever sure, is "ASK" for assistance .... but upon doing so state precisely what you've done and with precisely which files too, that's resulted in any particular issue. Each of our "talented texture artists" have their own individual "trade secrets", so, in this particular case I'll open the podium to Erik to comment further .... if he wishes to do so Mark C AKL/NZ

It won't let me open the files saying "Opening (Private) HJG_HJG_737-500_no-brow.mdl' failed: Unknown file type". Can anybody try converting the files from mdl to png? I don't think Gimp can open mdl files.

Why are you trying to open that file?? It is not an image file it should be left alone as it is a model file that defines the model that shows the aircraft in FS with no eye brow windows on the cockpit section of the fuselage.

Hey how are you? Just quickly, the .mdl file is basically the plane. It’s the 3d digital model that the repaints are then draped over in the sim. When the plane is compiled after it has been created, it‘s encrypted into the .mdl file which can’t be reverse engineered. Texture files on the other hand can be opened by image software, printshop etc.
What is it you are trying to do?
Cheers, Nathan

Unless your B737-500 aircraft base pack file had been corrupted during downloading processes (such can happen but is extraordinarily rare) all you need to do is ...."add your desired/downloaded B737-500 textures (and the supporting FLTSIM.XX data .... along with the custom sound pack and panel folders too if you desire) to the selected base pack" AIRCRAFT.CFG.file and all will/should be fine.
We need to know precisely what base pack you've installed .... and precisely what textures you're trying to install in order to be able to assist you.
All HJG recommended installation procedures conform to "standard FS installation procedures".

I also tried the one with the brow (Yes it was the mdl file) and it popped up with an almost identical error message except without the no_brow part.

ONCE AGAIN .... AS THE ABOVE COMMENTS AND SUBSEQUENT REPLIES (by "UrLocalAvGeek" aka "UrLoalAvNerd") WERE POSTED WITHIN A SEEMINGLY UNRELATED THREAD I'VE MOVED THIS ENTIRE QUERY TO THIS SEPARATE AND PURPOSE INTENDED THREAD.
Folks .... whenever seeking technical support post all queries on the related aircraft type support forum page (reference to B737-500 and NO BROW models indicates this is a "BOEING" related support query). Avoid tagging such queries on the end of existing, and possibly unrelated postings .... and more-so when such posting maybe "years old" as applied to this particular case Again .... "WHY" are you trying to open the MODEL files ? "WHAT EXACTLY" are you trying to do ? All MODEL files remain inside their folders as supplied within each aircraft because pack. There's absolutely no reason to open, access, or otherwise adjust/manipulate these files contained within any of these folders. The Texture folders (aided by the FLTSIM.XX data) automatically link to these MODEL folders and for these to then be displayed and flown in FS. Are your intending to install these models/base packs (supported by the textures we provide) so they can then be "flown in FS" and which is how they're intended to be used ? .... OR .... Are you under the impression that these files are intended to aid producing Textures for FS use ? Need you to clarify this because what you're communicating makes "absolutely no sense at all". As is evidenced by all imagery presented within the forum based B737-300/400/500 and B737-200 manuals .... and all imagery supporting all Texture subjects so far ever released or previewed for future release here .... there's nothing wrong with any of the supporting 3D MODEL files we offer.
