Hi friends: Aeronaves de Mexico which later became AEROMEXICO started operation of pure jets in 1960 with the DC-8 21. In the HJG hangar existes the XA-XAX as the wonderful repaint of Eduardo Rocha. It got the model updates of ver. 6.2 of the HJG DC-8 series. The real DC8-21 XA-XAX was destroyed at New York Idlewild after less than 600 flight hours on 19. of January 1961 in a snowstorm. 4 persons including the Mexican flight crew lost their life. Thanks to the exemplary work of the rescue workers and the ATC 109 occupants survived. aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19610119-0where one can download the original report of the investigation, which gave the blame to the surviving US check pilot for aborting the take-off well after V1 and the airplane already airborne without coordinating his action with the flight crew. This accident was the second of a DC-8 and the first of a Mexican operated jet airliner. Aeronaves de Mexico started operation 1934 and under AEROMEXICO still operates today. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerom%C3%A9xicoKind regards Walter P.S.: P.S. Have corrected the text about the model version, my XA-XAX was already at the latest version.
