Having only recently discovered the freeware "Denarq" mod for the Carenado Beechcraft D18S (and gotten to grips with the revised engine management) I decided to take it out once more for the next leg of our journey around the lower North Island of New Zealand.
Todays flight would see us depart Ohakea airforce base (NZOH) and follow the coastline on a Southwesterly course direct to Wellington International airport (NZWN) without any stopovers along the way.
As usual, I would use real time weather and time of day settings.
Engines warmed up and ready to depart Ohakea (NZOH) on runway 33
Climbing out, with reduced RPM's to avoid any undue wear on the engines
Turning Southwest for the coast, and setting the autopilot for a modest but steady climb rate of 500ft per min to 8000ft.
Following the Rangitikei river to the coast
On reaching the settlement of Tangimoana, we adjusted our heading South-Southwest to continue following the coastline
Passing over the settlement of Foxton and the mouth of the Manawatu river.
Foxton Beach
Lake Horowhenua off to our left with the settlement of Otaki further ahead along the coast
The settlement of Otaki along with the Otaki river
Approaching Paraparaumu airport (NZPP)
Kapiti Island off to our right
Looking back towards the settlement of Waikanae
Approaching Pukerua Bay with Porirua Harbour off in the distance
Passing over the city of Porirua and Titahi Bay. Wellington Harbour lies ahead off in the distance.
Following a South-westerly course down the peninsula. Wellington International airport comes into view
Wellington ATC gives us clearance to make our approach to runway 34
Passing over the settlement of Karori
Adjusting course to begin our turn onto final approach
The top of the South Island of New Zealand off in the distance
Wellington CBD and the airport off to our left
Lined up on runway 34. Was coming in a little "hot" so had pull the power right back as we descended to keep our speed down.
About to touch down
Parking up
The end of this leg of the journey around the lower North Island
The flight path taken. Total flight time of 45 mins.
Wellington airport has a notorious reputation for being a tricky place to land due frequent high winds and turbulence that blows in from the Cook Straight to the South.
As luck would have it, the weather was near perfect as I made my approach, but something to be weary of if you decide to attempt to land here with live weather activated etc.
The revised flight model of the "Denarq" Twin Beech really shines through on a short flight like this.
The base aircraft was pretty good (despite the poor sounding engines) but this mod really elevates the aircraft to an entirely new level, making it one of my favorites to fly at present.
Download link for the Denarq mod: flightsim.to/file/51532/denarq-twin-beech Note: Requires the (Payware) Carenado Beechcraft D18S from the flightsim marketplace.
Currently there is also a sale on at the flightsim marketplace where I picked up both of "Flightbeam's" Wellington International and Auckland International airports at 25% off each.
Both of these airport sceneries completely transform these International airports to be far more true to life with better looking terminals, hangars and assorted ground objects etc.
Well worth a look if interested.
The next leg will see us make our way back up the East coast of the North Island, and a possible excursion out to the volatile and currently very active volcano of White Island.
Until next time
Cheers!
