Here are some screens of my work on the Delta DC-8-51. I wanted to show what can be done with some of the older paints. I know Michael and some of the other painters dont like the "weathered" look and thats cool, but I think there are some VERY talented painters here now who can take on at least redoing some of the belly textures on a lot of these birds.
One of the things I have tried to do is blend the wing and belly metal a bit better on these birds. In these shots notice the wing textures. I have redone the colors slightly and taken out the prevalent greenish hue found in them. Also Ive just added a slight bit of weathering to make them pop a little bit. The tail bitmap gets the same treatment.
I have redone the window frame bitmap to look a bit more metallic as on most paints the frame is left in natural metal finish. On that bitmap the textures for the fans reside and i have darkened them up slightly giving some more depth to the engines.
On the Delta paint I have redone and repositioned the logo on the fuselage and sharpened up the tail logo font a god bit. The blue and red in the cheatline I think were slightly off so i have ever so slightly subdued the hues and feel its more realistic looking. On the nacelles I corrected the slant in the logo as it was slanting the wrong way on one side of the engine. Those got sharpened up a good bit also and i have sudued the panel lines slightly. The big change, and this is still ongoing, is the belly. Ive tried to make some convincing metal textures instead of having the overall grey plain texture that was there already. Michael Verlin did a WONDERFUL job on these, Im just trying to make them a tiny bit more realistic looking is all. I dont mean in any way to denigrate his work. Believe me I appreciate it!
The wing textures both bottom and top are transferable to any DC-8 paint I believe so if someone would like them I'll leave it up to the folks here. maybe a seperate download for that? I have also tweaked the tire textures a bit giving the rubber a slightly bit more uniform look so you dont see the striping on the tires as they move.
let me know what you think, United's 50 is next. The Font is too dark and heavy and it will get the wing and belly tweaks.
