It shouldn't be long before the new versions of the 707/720 panels are ready for release (At last ;D ). Here are the changes:
1) The edge of the forward control panel is now visible from the main panel for greater realism, and lit up when appropriate.
2) A popup window is now provided on the main panels to view appropriate V-speeds for take-off and landing.
3) The fuel panel on the flight engineer's station now includes engine shutoff switches as per the real plane, and some of the lights have now been corrected (both the colours, and the fact that fuel valve lights only illuminate during valve transit).
4) The N2 gauges on the Flight Engineer's station of the 1965-era panels now correspond with those on the main panels.
5) Fuel flow gauges on the main panel and fuel capacity gauges on the flight engineer panel will now indicate in kilograms, if your International preferences are set to something other than "US System". (I decided to do this once I noticed the kg-calibrated fuel gauges in Harerton Dourado's great Fuel Management tutorial).
6) All sounds are now stored in external files. This makes the "Core Files" zip smaller than it was previously (as the sound data - incompressible - is no longer duplicated) and also gives greater flexibility. You can remove the trim wheel sound if you find it annoying, or (good for the sound gurus) replace the sounds with better ones!
7) The internal workings of the panel have been greatly simplified, which should make it less prone to crash FS2004.
8) The NAV and APR autopilot modes are improved such that they actually home on a distant VOR radial or localizer
9) Corresponding to the new base pack, there is a special 707-320B Early panel with 0-17-25-40-50 flap detents (instead of the 0-14-25-40-50 detents of the -320B Advanced and -320C aircraft).
10) A new set of panels is provided for post-1967 -320Bs and -320Cs (also much better than the current -320B/C panels for the E-3 Sentry), and for the 707-700.
Here's the 707-420 at the threshold, with the V-speed popup shown and with International preferences set to "Metric - altimeter feet" (thus setting the fuel gauges to kilograms).
707-320Bs and -320Cs built after 1967 had a completely different panel layout, without the signature "1 2 3 4" engine fire handles on the glareshield:
Here's the panel for the 707-700. It will be more useful when a CFM-engined AWACS becomes available at HJG.
