Was rather filling for a short flight and far better than anything I've seen flying domestic back in the States.
You know you now have to pay for/buy your meal/snak on US domestic routes now .... at least I know you do on AA transcontinental services !

Yeah I've heard about that and it sucks. The definition of "service" in the US domestic market stinks. Have you EVER tried Midwest Express Airlines Mark? I have and you've GOT to try them the next time you fly back there. They are SUPERB! They DO fly from the major West Coast cities of SFO and LAX via MKE to MIA..their onboard service is fantastic and the seating is all Business class at a very competitive economy class rate. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!
For someone living in Asia, this is something limited to what you see with the low-cost carriers primarily based in Thailand and Malaysia {Air Asia I'm thinking}. Everyone else serves a full meal service. Dragonair from Kaohsiung to Hong Kong fills their A330-300's every day and they offer a full meal and beverage service. It's a fantastic run for them and they make money hand over fist on that route.
At least "buy on board" is offered for some kind of inflight service, still, I yearn and pine for the old days when a US domestic flight was something of a great experience aloft. American Airlines domestic service in 1974 was something I can't forget. In economy for breakfast it was a huge tray they'd set in front of you with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, toast with jam and butter, coffee or tea, white or chocolate milk, orange juice. They even had glass salt and pepper shakers on the darn things! Then they'd come around with hot towels after the meal. It was identical in many ways to what United and Northwest Orient had on the New York/Newark-Chicago or Newark-Detroit route.
Man. those chiles in Vietnam were harsh..their cousins from Thailand probably tore your rear-end apart the next morning. I eat a LOT of spicy Taiwanese food here and can attest to the 'corrosive effects' of the spicier side of the cuisine, still it's very tame here compared to Vietnam or Thailand. Turkish cuisine has many spicy recipes as well. Many a night I spent outside of Incirlik Air Base in Adana eating at the various eateries off-base and well-down town with some fantastic food, some of which was quite spicy.
Mark, check your email soon!
A 3 SHIP Boeing 720 formation should be arriving at Auckland any time now. Routing is Kaohsiung-Guam-Tahiti-Auckland.
Ships include the PNA 1962 and 1967 scheme and a Northwest Orient 1967 720B.
Let me know you get them.
