The Alaska titles were probably red, as that would have been in keeping with the standard Golden Nugget scheme. www.airliners.net/open.file/0312920/L/The titles also appear to be a bit too talk and round compared to the photos of the full Golden Nugget livery and period advertisements I have. I will email you the custom text I have used on some Golden Nuggett repaints.

I thought that was likely then I wondered if they would have been black as it was a hybrid livery..using the Pan Am base?

Alaska's hybrid liveries were odd in that some times they were matched (such as the exBraniff 727 still in BN Ultra colors where they matched the colors) and other times no, such as the Jet America MD-80s that had black Alaska titles replace the blue Jet America titles.
Alaska's first really consistant color scheme was the Golden Nugget scheme, and even that had a good deal of variation. Prior to the mid-1970s Alaska's fleet was very much in flux, ever changing, with color schemes usually just being whatever someone wanted at the time the plane arrived.

That's looking darned nice anyway Tony Judging from the B&W photo I provided, I thought the fuselage titles were black .... based on their appearing to be amuch more dense shade than the titles associated with the tail logo. I'll send you a copy of the same photo Nick .... to scrutinize. This particular aircraft (N727PA) was leased from PAN AM for a periosd of some 6 months during 1970 .... according to my references. YEP .... I think you've "nailed it" Tony It looks great ! In my opinion this one represents probably the rarest of all the ALASKA AIRLINES liveried B707's and B720's. Thanks for taking it on ! Mark C AKL/NZ
