I just had a little question on the E-8. Is the real thing that bloody heavy? The CG is so far forward it's not even funny! Great model by the way, a very fine bird Gary!

Hi there, buddy !! ;D ;D And I thought I was the only one that couldn't get the bi*** off the ground..... I used most of the 10000ft at STR before she would unwillingly get airborne..... Godspeed Bernd

Hey Bernd! ;D I know right, she's one heavy cadallac. I was thinking about it last night and the pod underneath the aircraft is most likely the reason for the CG being so far forward, recee equipment isn't light ya know. It's kinda fun coz your rotation point is so close to the threshold, then again there may be something wrong with me. By that time, though, you're hauling some serious booty so getting airborne after rotation isn't very hard, 7 degrees of nose up and your wheels are off the ground almost immediately. Final is a bit hairy too. All I can say is watch your VSI and keep your airspeed up. Best approach I've made is about 185kts, right as you cross the threshold flare around 8-10 degrees so you use the bird as a brake and gently touch down, usually around 160-150kts. Speed brakes go up as soon as your rear wheels touch and keep your elevator in the full back position after your nose gear hits the pavement. In this bird every bit of aerodynamic braking helps Happy Landings, Jay

Don't fly with a full fuel load, and use the stab trim. She weighs 175000, and still has the same max takeoff limits as a normal 320C. Cheers, Gary

Makes sense, takeoff with half a tank and hook up with a tanker while en-route. Same procedure was used for SR's during their mission profiles.
