I've installed the B707-420 and tried to follow all the instructions, including using all the latest base model files (at 18 Jul 06) and reading the forum messages about panel installation. All works well, except the autopilot. It won't switch on, and the altitude hold switch flickers rapidly between on and off. Has anyone else had this, or is there something simple I've missed? I've tried switching into FSNavigator but can't use the autopilot from there either. An excellent product, so I'd be grateful for any advice on how to cure this? I'm using FS2004. I've installed the latest gauge files. Anything to do with fsuipc?

The AP can't work unless the Battery switch on the F/E panel is "ON".
Someone else did report automatic flickering of the ALT HLD switch on the AP during air cart startup sequences. This then ceased after startup and associated commentary were complete.
Indeed I have seen this myself too during the same sequence .... but .... only the once ever.
Strangely it never did repeat itself after that one occasion.
FSUIPC is (in my oppinion) an asset, but, it's not absolutely essential to he running of these B707/720 panels.

I checked the battery and still had the flickering with the battery on. However I find I can get the AP working either using ^E for auto start, or by switching from another a/c already running. If I go through the manual startup I get the flickering and no AP function, so I can only assume I've missed out some startup action. I did follow all the checklists, and everything else works fine, but there must be something I missed, so I'll keep checking! Many thanks for your suggestion. But even if the AP is not functioning, should a switch be flickering rapidly like that?
Who says a 707 should be easy to pick up? A great model, an enjoyable balance between an easy to fly sim and a detailed systems simulation.

I think it was the -420 panel with which I observed this too .... and only during startup commentary and air cart sequences whilst on the ground. I do recall the ALT HLD switch stopping vibrating as soon as I shut-off the air cart after startup .... so .... there must be some kind of inadvertant reaction between startup sounds and that part of the AP. I'm buggered if I know how to resolve it though That's definitely one for George's "SQUARK" list .... I grant you As for the other details you've mentioned. I've never .... ever .... experienced these at all Mark C AKL/NZ

The autopilot switch flickering will stop by turning on the avionics.

I've only ever seen this (with the -420 panel) during engine start and with the ground cart and associated commentary operating. For me it ceased as soon as the air cart was shutdown after completion of engine start procedures.
