Hello. I have just joined & wanted to say how great it is to find a site like this devoted to older aircraft. I'm in the UK & being new to FSim am having fun finding aircraft from the 20s on. I have just installed the Curtis 46 & have just flown from Bournemouth to Southampton. It handles very well & will give me many hours of flying pleasure.
Just one question though & apologies if it is in the wrong place. I downloaded Tom Gibson's Convair 880 & have followed the usual procedure (like I did with the c46) in installation, but it doesn't show in my list of aircraft. It is in a folder called HJG Convair880v1 so what have I done wrong, please? I tried renaming it by deleting the HJG but that doesn't work either.
Thanks - Terry Wallis.

Tom Gibson's Cv880? Hmmm... Don't know what that could be, but maybe you're using an AI model. Try downloading an 880 directly from the HJG site, and try it. Dee

Thanks. Tom Gibson's site is a link from HJG Article page. I had downloaded the 880 from HJG but that doesn't show either. It said Base Pack so maybe it is an AI job & they both are? I'm resigned to not flying the 880............

You need the Base Pack, plus a texture set for whichever airline you want to use.

Thanks George but it still doesn't show in my fs9 list. I downloaded the Lancia 880 from Simviation & although that shows up it refuses to load & I get an error message telling me there is something wrong with the gauges. fs just locks solid & refuses to go on. I've restored to prior installing it, so it looks as if I shalln't able to fly the 880 :-(

Remember you need to add the text from the texture package to the beginning of the aircraft.cfg provided with the Base Pack, and replace [fltsim.XX] with [fltsim.0].

Thanks for your attempts to herlp out here George OK .... I think I know what's the problem here. Firstly .... reinstall your LANICA 880 and the associated panel (I think that came packaged with the HJG panel if I remember correctly). Don't fire up the aircraft or FS yet though. Secondly .... go to the "CONVAIR" panels page of this website. On the top of the page is a link to download a very tiny module called "FFSSOUND.DLL" .... this is required in order for all our CV880 & DC8 panels to work. Without it they simply won't function. Download this "FSSOUND.DLL" and install it inside your FS9 "MODULES" folder. You must also then locate your FS9.CFG file and add the following data to the botton of this CFG file [OLDMODULES] FSSound.dll=1Copy and paste the above data .... or .... just write it manually taking care to represent the upper and lower case font precisely as it appears above. Save this new addition to yoiu FS9.CFG .... and that should see you right now without any further issues Ihnncidentally, our DC8 panels use the very same FSSOUND.DLL module despite it being available on both panel pages. You only need to install it the once though .... and you'll then be right for both CV880/990 & DC8 panels. Mark C AKL/NZ S

Hello Mark C. I assume you are the famous Mark Cranston?
I did as you advise & it all works well, except that when I load fs9 I got a message about potentially damaging software & do I want to load it? I clicked No & eventually got the Lancia Convair 880, which I took on a short hop from Bournemouth to Southampton :-)
Thank you for your help. It is a nice looking aircraft & a flying chum who has just seen it (well I was showing it off!!) is going to download it so I am able to help him getting to get it flying as & when.
Many thanks, Terry Wallis.

Terry .... it would be a message to the effect of "POTENTIALLY INCOMPATIBLE SOFTWARE" rather than damaging. For your own comfort there's nothing in any of our panel/gauge sets that will cause any damage to either FS or your PC. If you're getting such a message I suspect it's probably be inrelation to and mention the "FSSOUND.DLL". If so then you must add the following data to your "FS9.CFG file [OLDMODULES] FSSound.dll=1As mentioned previously take care to ensure you type this data precisely/exactly as it appears above. Once saved you shouldn't then see any startup messaging at all when FS fires up. Just to further add to your comfort: On the basis of selecting "YES" to that startup message the CV880 panel will still load up fine anyway without missing anything .... but .... do try to make the above recommended edit anyhow. Also .... having now got the LANICA CV880 installed and useable you'll be able to add whatever other CV880 textures sets you desire, simply by duplicating the [Fltsim.XX] entries and renaming or add-on texture sets accordingly. Hope that helps get you further established on the road to enjoying both CV880 Mark C AKL/NZ

Thank you Mark.
The message is as you say & it appeared after installing fssound & copy & pasting the fs9 CFG alteration as you advised , & still does appear! I just click No & carry on. It all works alright.
I am new to Flight Sim & have not got round to repainting aircraft yet but might do so one day!!!
Thanks for you help,
Terry Wallis.

Hey Trevor
If that edit is copied and pasted correctly and "SAVED" before you close off the FS9.CFG .... the your shouldn't be getting that message.
Please check once more time that it's there on the FS9.CFG .... and spelt correctly font for font.
The slightest little error will mean that "POTENTIALLY INCOMPATIBLE SOFTWARE" warning will continue appearing.
