Breaking news suggests that Russia and Germany have engaged in a 'tit-for tat' round of banning each others' freight flights, see quote from Deutsche World.de:
Germany is refusing Russian cargo planes to enter its airspace in a tit-for-tat dispute over fly-over fees, according to a report in the German daily, Die Welt. German authorities have banned Aeroflot freight planes from landing near Frankfurt, after Russia cancelled permission for Lufthansa Cargo planes to enter its airspace on the weekend. The ban was imposed after the German airliner refused to pay what it says are excessive fees imposed by Moscow to fly across Russia. Lufthansa Cargo now flies an alternative route that adds three hours to its return journey from Frankfurt to Astana Kazakhstan. Meanwhile freight destined for Europe is piling up at Moscow airport.
Airlines such as Aeroflot and Air Bridge cannot now use Frankfurt. This could have further implications for European airlines, if Russia closes its airspace, or generally raises charges, it could drive up prices of many long-haul flights, and add time on them.
