Okay, heres my problem. I start up FS, just about ready to go for a flight, start the engines or even just leave it for about 10 mins, and all of a sudden my frame rate drops to a completely unusable 3fps or worse. I've been methodically uninstalling everything I added in the past 6 months to no effect. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
One option I still have is a complete reinstall of fs2004. Im worried however about losing all my addons. What happens when you uninstall? Do items the user has added remain?
Thanks for any help

What have you got running in the background Elliott that you could temporarily deactivate during you FS specific sessions .... for e.g. Antivirus, and Firewall etc !
Other than that it almost sounds like a memory problem to me .... a failing RAM stick maybe.

I normally switch off everything prior to FS, infact I have less running now than when FS ran normally. As for memory stick, I really dont know, Everything else as fine and I have 2GB of ram anyway.
Ive seen a few reports of this before, though no definite solutions!

Try Deleting your FS9.cfg, but remember to back it up.

I remember now that Garry RUSSELL once ran into this very same (or similar) problem around 2 or 3 years ago .... unexplained major frame rate deterioration .... regardless of multiple uinstallation/reinstallation of FS9 too.
You might be wise to ask him about this over on the CBFS forum .... drop him a PM !

Thanks Mark! Ill contact Gary! Reinstall 1 did not appear to work, (though i didnt make it uninstall all the settings which was probably a stupid thing to do)
Im tempted to try running FS without any other programs running in the background to see how that goes.

Talk to Garry before you do anything to drastic.
I know he's both experienced and resolved this same problem.

Garrys problem was unrelated but I've managed to fix it now ;D using a hairdryer......
Seems there was a bit too much dust clogging up the innards of the laptop, so I blew the hair dryer through it, a couple of puffs of dust later and the CPU temp has dropped by about 20-30 degrees. FS now runs flawlessly ;D

Glad to know you've managed to successfully resolve this Elliott. Hairdryers can obviously have more uses than those for which they were originally intended Maybe we should endorse the use of this equipment to be a part of everyones recommended FS maintenance kit ;D Mark C BOG/CO
