Guys, for the first time I downloaded two HJG aircraft for FSX (I run it only with SP1 installed & I am on Windows XP ). The Convair 880 and 990A. Over the years I've downloaded plenty for Fs 2002 and FS9 and had no problems. Ive followed your instructions Dan - exactly, and I've checked, double checked and even triple checked but I hate to tell you but like some others before me the aircraft just don't show in FSX ! One thing I have noticed which may or may not be a problem is that in the panels for these aircraft there is only one Panel.cfg, there is no panel.fsx.cfg ?
Hope you can help.

I can only suggest you recheck that you've remembered to change the default "ADD TO AIRCRAFT" FLTSIM.XX line to read FLTSIM.0 for your first entry on the AIRCRAFT.CFG file .... then following on henceforth in strict numerical sequence for each additional texture file added to that same CFG file.
Other than that .... I'm not FSX active unfortunately .... so .... I must leave you in Dan's highly skilled and competent hands here.
These aircraft are FSX compatible.
Only the B707/720/C135 panels have FSX specific PANEL.CFG files .... so far as I'm aware.
Our other panels don't require such FS version specific CFG files.

Mark, Yes, I have renumbered my flight sim entries. I can't understand what the problem is, I must have downloaded hundreds of aircraft over the years but can't fathom this one out. Just out of interest, what is it that makes an add-on ai aircraft like aardvark etc not show up in the menu?
Thanks for your reply anyway Mark

>>Just out of interest, what is it that makes an add-on ai aircraft like aardvark etc not show up in the menu?<< A boolen value (yes or no usually, but it could also be a number value) entered into the specific setting in the "AIR" file. But the chances of this being the case are just flat zero. Keep looking. I'm sure you've got an alias path problem or something similar.

Dee, Thanks for taking the time to reply to my problem and while I'm at it for all the great stuff you do for flight sims.
I've checked through everything again and just can't see what the problem can possibly be. I had the panels aliased in the FSFSCONV folder within the 'Airplanes' folderand I now have them in the individual airplane folder so they are not aliased. My flight sim entires in the cfg are all numbered ok and named ok and the textures are all fine. I'm definitely baffled by this, never come across this before.
BTW Dee I'm a big fan of DC-8's also but they are getting very rare, I noticed on Airliners.net the UPS fleet on death row in the Nevada desert !

The reason for instance AI aircraft doesnt show in the menu in FSX is the lack of panel. so simple! You don't need panels for AI-aircraft and hence you have a very good parameter to select between AI and NON-AI No magic at all.

No Dan, If only it were so simple. The Convair's have panels but the planes don't show up in the Menu!
Both aircraft have their respective panels with them in their folders and I have renamed them panel.cv990a and panel.cv880. The cfg entries therefore read panel=cv990a and panel=cv880 respectively. I have downloaded all of the other required files and placed them as per your instructions. I have now checked and rechecked each aircraft and its data at least 6 times and unless I'm missing something here, there is no reason I can find to explain why they do not appear in the menu.
I can't help thinking that there just has to be something else Dan which is preventing these aircraft showing up particularly as I am not the first to encounter this. I notice that the panel bmp in the actual panel folder's are named CV990_new & CV880_new, would this be a possible cause? I don't think it is but I just want to throw some ideas around to try to help solve this.
Hope to hear from you later Dan, its late here in NZ and I'm off to bed.

I was replying to why AI didn't show up...
In your case you have overlooked some path reference, thats why ;-) Simple as that.
Or you haven't created a fsfsconv-folder, or you've created it in the wrong place.... no magic involved, only logic.

Mark, I'm an immigrant from Scotland (since 2005) and I live in Greenhithe on the N.Shore.
Dan, I'm 100% sure that everything is as it should be. I've spent two days trying to get them to show in the menu now so I think i'll leave it for now.
thanks anyway Cam

Cam: I'm 100% sure everything isn't otherwise you wouldn't have a no-show....
But perhaps you could elaborate a bit on which files you have downloaded.
I could try to look into those and see if there should be a problem with them (but I seriously doubt it).
If you tell me exactly which files you've got, I'll try to install them myself. Other than that try to follow my other approach written this very evening.

Dan..... Success !!!
First of all, your description on installing the aircraft into FSX is 100% correct.
Here are the very simple reasons the planes didn't show up and I apologise because they are such simple little details.....but not really my fault...honest although I should have checked more thoroughly!
The CV990a (American N5611 and denver PoC N8357C ) didn't show in the menu because....in the flightsim section that came with the Denver repaint (the 2008 one) the line 'sim=990' should actually say 'sim=990A'....oops! and a warning to others who download it to check it.
The CV880-22f repaint of Inair was incorrectly named also. the flightsim entry reads 'texture=inair_panama_1979_22f_hp-821' while the actual texture folder is named 'texture=inair_panama_1979_880_22f_hp-821' so again anyone downloading should be aware that htese tiny little errors mean no show in the FSX menu
So all's well that ends well, thanks for the help everyone and keep it up, you just can't beat the old airliners.
regards, Cam

Well the apologies are on our side if the zip's are actually wrongly packed. We will see into it a.s.a.p.
Denver PoC and Inair is now corrected, and thank you for pointing it out!
And once again I'm sorry for the inconvenience!
