Though I had been flying the HJG 707 for quite awhile, it was the BAe and Mathhias' panel that brought me into the group. It is an excellent piece of work and his efforts will be missed.
As one response to one of the things he mentioned: I NEVER fly with a VC, so here's one diehard 2D sim pilot. If I could afford a Matrox 3ToGO I would do the 3 monitor route. 2D panels like Matthias' make it all worthwhile.

What Matthias has developed for the community over the years (in respect of the BAe/ARJ panel he's made and shared with us here at HJG) is nothing short of an "ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE" of FS design .... and which has taken many years of dedication to perfect to its current superb level of authenticity/complexity. Within his recent posting I'm saddened to read about things like boycotts (to hell with bloody politics .... I thought this's supposed to be a hobby for us all to enjoy .... but unfortunately .... it seems there's some elements at work within the community that make it not so), and the imposition of excessively demanding community expectations which he's obviously had to confront as well. I do often wonder just where our hobby (the freeware aspect of it I mean) is going, or being led (some of this direction is just plain simple FS progress/evolution of course .... but .... some of what's happening within our hobby isn't) and what some of the more ignorant elements at work within our community are actually doing to it .... intentionally or otherwise. There's been any number of occasions recently when even I've considered that "maybe" its time for me to pack up and get to hell out of the public side of FS. Fortunately though most of our (HJG) community are a pleasure to deal with .... and that only motivates my continuing to work here .... but .... I've also got to be frank and say there's some elements at work, even within our community (here), that aren't such a pleasure to deal with and nor are they the least bit conducive to the enjoyment of this hobby. Those not intimately involved in the running of a show like HJG couldn't even begin to imagine the nature of "some" PM's I've seen from the community over the years .... and how offensively abusive some elements the community (whom we only try to please) can really lower their standards to become. That's the other side of FS .... what sometimes goes on behind the scenes .... something of which most folk aren't even remotely aware. Nobody needs that sort of crap .... and least of all our community service providers, designers, and suppliers. I do also feel the level of community expectation imposed upon service providers, designers, and suppliers today "sometimes" exceeds what many are reasonably capable of delivering. It's one thing for the community to "WANT" .... but .... it's often something entirely different again for those same service providers, designers, and suppliers to actually be able to "DELIVER" .... and as quickly as some of the community seems to expect. Unfortunately some elements within the community seem to have become extremely over demanding and unappreciative. Apart from the private issues Matthias feels he needs to prioritize .... and which confront even us here at HJG from time to time too .... "IF" he's ever experienced anything of the likes of what I've hinted at above then I'm not the least bit surprised he feels motivated to move on. Who can blame him .... or anyone for that matter ! Most of the time this hobby is a pleasure .... like it should be .... BUT .... I'm sorry to to say there's other times when it simply isn't For service providers, designers, and suppliers alike it's nearly always exceptionally time consuming .... and to an extent that might simply astound most of the community ! Matthias (should you read these words) .... I'm sorry to see you quit, even temporarily, your FS development work .... but ...."THANK YOU" for your dedication to produce the extremely high quality product you've provided for us (the community and not just HJG) to date. As far as I'm concerned at least .... both your work, and endeavors to try and please everyone, are indeed gratefully appreciated by a great many more folk than whom stop to think .... and take a few moments give you those much deserved words of "THANKS". @ Mark,
I second every word you've said, some people are never satisfied, no matter how FREE it is.
@ Mike,
Yep when you have 2D panels this good, who needs VC.
I just hope that Matthias comes back to the community, in the not too distant future.
Regards .............Adrian W.

Sad news but I will enjoy his works for literally years to come. The same can be said for all the great HJG aircraft here! I don't get involved in the politics of FS, I'm actually quite amazed how much people can argue over pointless stuff. I fly planes in FS, made by some great people like all those involved here at HJG and I have a great time doing it!
It's all that needs to be said. Everything else that goes on is childish to an undescribable degree.
Thanks guys, love your planes, love the site and the constant work you guys must put in to keep the updates coming.
I fly around in FS and love it! I place more value on my life than to waste it in other silly ways.
Good luck Matthias with whatever you do and thanks!
