For all of you who like the Ruth/Mussner TU-144, a version 2 was released just today on flightsim.com (also on Avsim in two parts). I'm downloading it now (the file is huge!).
New features (from Claudio himself):
Weather Radar, Pedestal, working INS Inertial Navigation System (XML), a working APU with sound (XML), parachutes-sound, VHF Home Finder, AUTOLAND works under crosswind conditions up to 16 knots, switchable Antiskid effekt (if runway is wet), Illumination, automatic wipers activated by rain, working original Tu144 roller blinds (Glare shield) , automatic landing lights independent from the AOA, rain effect in the VC, Moving Pilots heads, new Crash Simulation effects, working intake flaps, 6 working exits, O2 Mask, TOGA, Fuel dump, Crash Sim with a lot of effects in the air and on ground, and a lot of bugs fixed !
Check it out!
Regards,
Jim

Could be an interesting file Jim.
That sucker is a bit quicker than CONCORDE.
I'll be interested in reading a first hand account of it later on .... if you care to post your impressions here.

Well I haven't tried it yet, but like version 1, it uses the Concorde airframe type in the .air file (number 5943) which, while giving the TU-144 the proper flight characteristics (of a delta-wing), also has a built-in top speed limitation of Mach 2 (thanks to Microsoft). So even though the TU-144 could cruise faster than Concorde in real life, you are limited to Mach 2 in FS2004.
Incidentally, although the real TU-144 could cruise faster, documentation from Tupolev states that they usually kept the cruise speed down to Mach 2 anyway.
Finally, the TU-144 could achieve higher airspeeds at lower altitudes than Concorde (e.g. You can't do 300 knots in a Concorde at 5000 feet), so if you 'ride the barberpole' during your climb (i.e. stick to the max speed allowable at any given altitude), I think you will get to cruise speed more quickly in the TU-144 anyway. So you'll still have an edge over the Concorde in the sim.

Jim

Apparently TU144 became unstable in the cruise when operated at extremely high MACH numbers .... which is probably why it was flown slower, but still, some 100 MPH faster than CONCORDE.
Appearently also .... the Russians were never able to resolve this instability problem ..... so Colin BALLANTINE (a UK expert on all Soviet civil aviation matters prior to his passing away a few years ago) told me back in the mid 1980's.
Pitty about the FS speed limitation though !
I didn't know that !

Concordski also had to use reheat whilst in cruise to keep high Mach numbers, Concorde did not, it also was a design disaster compared to clean Concorde lines, the engines were very 2nd best and overall lacked suitability for the routes it was used on, even the Russkies who would preserve dropped it very quickly. The model in FS does look very good I tried the Version 1 and was impressed, just them weird Russian panels always put me off

OOPS .... that certainly wouldn't aid fuel economy .... I guess ! Getting on to other great RUSKIES for FS .... A "RUSKIE" panel I'd like to see redeveloped for FS2004 is the FS2002 TU104 .... Russia's first ever civil jetliner ! Benoit and myself even made a (yet unreleased) soundpack for it ! We never ever did get that radio navigation panel working desirably .... which I think was the only disappointing feature of the whole TU104 package as I recall. HMMM .... sounds like another potential co-operative development for George to pursue. He'll get the TU104 working .... for sure !!!! The other "RUSKIES" I particularly like are the TU114 .... probably because of its highly swept wing with those huge contra-rotating turboprop propellers. And I also particularly like the TU154 too .... anyone who likes the CV990 should also enjoy the TU154 for its speed if nothing else !!!! I've never heard much though regarding the IL62 that was released a little while back Can anyone offer some intelligent feedback on this one ? Mark C AKL/NZ

I've got my copy downloaded; if all goes well, I'll get to try her out later tonight. Thank God I spent many hours in the late 1990s playing Flanker, or else I'd be up the creek. Where's my bloody MiG-31 helmet, anyways?
Speaking as a 990 fan, I was never fond of tri-jets except for the TriStar, and the -154 looks too much like a 727 for me to be a big fan. On the other hand, I've always been intrigued by the -114, but I'm in no hurry to hear those giant engines, reportedly the loudest in the world.
If it's Il-62s you want, go see David Maltby. I hear he has the original. ;p

Getting on to other great RUSKIES for FS .... The greatest Russian aircraft for MSFS is, clearly, the MiG-31 Firefox. ;D

A TU-104 panel by George would be awesome! And an Aeromusica TU-104 soundpack would be icing on the cake!
I tried may times to edit and/or merge the cfg and air files just to get it to fly OK, but never came up with something that worked.

I'd better clarify .... or .... I'm potentially gonna end up in some very hot water with a few people here ! ;D Actually .... I was meaning an upgrade of it's existing panel which is very good indeed .... in my oppinion. As I recall only its the radio navigation system that has never worked properly .... which is what needs fixing. The soundpack is "READY NOW" .... I've just never uploaded it anywhere .... yet ! I dunno about them being the loudest .... but .... as I recall .... the TU114 was certainly among the fastest and most long ranging of the turboprop airliners. Mark C AKL/NZ

Mark,
Is your TU-104 actually flyable? When I used to fly that one (with its original FDE), it had strange behaviours that I thought were typical of some early FS2002 jets that didn't fly well in FS2004. That's ultimately why I abandoned this aircraft.
I would have thought by now that somebody would have updated the FDE by now, but the few things I have found and tried only made things worse. Not being able to speak or read Russian, I don't know if there is a good fix out there.
Can you shed any light on this?
Jim

YEAH .... my TU104 flies like a bird .... and roars like a prehistoric beast that it is ! As mentioned above .... the only thing that didn't work properly was the radio navigation panel (or it might have been the AP .... I honestly can't remember now) .... as I recall. I got my main files from AVSIM .... as I recall .... but .... I think I also updated them later with stuff obtained from one of the following Russian FS websites below .... TU104 WEBSITEtu104.avsim.ru/e_news.htmlTU104 PANEL/ENGLISH www.pier3.org/misc/tu-104_panel_english.zipRUSSIAN FS AIRCRAFTrusaviagold.narod.ru/aircraft.htmPLEASE NOTE .... I've had these links for a while now and haven't checked them before posting here, so, I have to assume they still work. "IF" the above links don't work then all may not be lost .... just refer to the following AVSIM and FLIGHTSIM related dataFYI .... here's a list of locations, filenames, and sizes etc for each of the other great Russian classics illustrated above .... With concerns over high oil prices, I wonder if a modern-day version of the Tu-114 (ie turboprops on a swept wing) may end up being built?
I also think it would be nice if the Russians came back into the airliner industry in a big way, in order to break the Boeing/Airbus duopoly.
