US NAVY EC-24A (repaint by our one and only John DETRICK) .... see "DC8-50F" downloads page ....

At least 1 DC8 did enter a specialist military tatical air service role. During 1988 the US Navy purchased an ex United Airlines DC8-54F (N8048U L/n #276). This particular aircraft (163050) was upgraded to provide support for Fleet Electronic Warfare Missions/C3 threat simulation as well as general transport deployment. Aquiring the Navy "EC-24A" designation this aircraft was operated by Chrysler Technologies on behalf of the US Navy until decommissioned during 1998.

We also have this rare/prospective DC8-54F JETMASTER .... which was an early 1960's USAF demonstration by Douglas (by our exceptionally skilled and highly talented Michael VERLIN) and which also appears on the "DC8-50F" downloads page ....

During the slack early 1960's production period, Douglas first attempted to market DC8's to the USAF as "JETMASTER" transports, then again later as a contender for prospective AWACS, ECM, Anti-Submarine, Aerial Refueling, and Medical Evacuation roles. Whilst military interest was generated no orders were forthcoming as the USAF elected to remain with Boeing and its established B707 derived C135/B airframe.

It's entirely up to Dee WALDRON .... but .... I very much doubt we'll be seeing any more DC8 model updates. It's also extremly unlikely we'll see a definitive EC-24A model with all the pods and other external pertrusions .... so .... what we already have there is "IT" I'm afraid !
