Odd one this. I renamed the aircraft fsx.cfg file and I find that Ship One is drinking from one fuel tank, right aux if I remember correctly. The other three are not touched. I get the 'auto refill is available' message. If I use the aircraftfs9.cfg file, both aux tanks get tapped. Has anybody come across this before? I had a look around before asking. You might say 'use the FS9 file' and I probably will, but this little puzzler needs fixing or removed. side note....... I keep running out of runway with these old birds even with a load of flaps.

First report I've seen regarding this !
I presume you've just renamed that CFG file to read "AIRCRAFT" .... dropping completely the "FSX" suffix .... and have made no other edits whatsoever other than applying the DC8-10 SHIP ONE 1958 "ADD TO AIRCRAFT" data to the CFG.
I also presume it's the original P&W JT3C-6 turbojet powered 1958 version of DC8 SHIP ONE we talking about here .... and not the later P&W JT3D fanjet powered version of around 1960.
Which then suggests your problem is FSX CFG related.
You can use the FS9.CFG file in FSX .... but .... you'd have to replace the FS9 SMOKE EFFECTS data with that from the FSX.CFG .... as well as also adding the GPWS data too from the FSX.CFG.
Both CFG versions are otherwise identical .... and the same AIR file is also used for both FS9 and FSX.
You shouldn't be using more than 3 notches of flap (corresponding to around 25* on the early DC8's .... but .... different for the 60's and 70's) for T/O .... and you can also use less .... depending on your T/O weight, and RWY length available, airport elevation, obstacle clearance, and ambiante temperature etc.
You must/should also be setting a few degrees of Trim before T/O .... as well as reducing your fuel loading so as to avoid exceeding the aircraft MGTOW limitations.
Also .... remember too that the earliest DC8's (SHIP ONE 1958, and DC8-10 .... like B707-120 as well) were "underpowered" .... and did require thrust augmentation during T/O using Water/Methanol injection .... a feature incoporated into the panels of DC8 SHIP ONE 1958, DC8-10, B707-120, B707-138 and some of the very early military C135 SERIES aircraft.
Might be an idea to also familiarise yourself with my DC8 PANEL INSTALLATION & HANDLING NOTES .... posted on the ABOUT HJTG AIRCRAFT forum page. Most of everyhing you need to know regarding these aircraft and panels is presented there .... and these notes are also occasionally updated from time to time too.

"AULDRICH" .... If you going to try and resolve your FSX problem by using the ex FS9.CFG in FSX then you must also do each of the following .... 1. Replace the FS9.CFG SMOKE EFFECTS data with the following FSX specific data section .... [SMOKESYSTEM] smoke.0=-15.00, 46.00, -5.00, fx_hjg_dc-8w.fx smoke.1=-15.00, 26.00, -5.00, fx_hjg_dc-8w.fx smoke.2=-15.00, -26.00, -5.00, fx_hjg_dc-8w.fx smoke.3=-15.00, -46.00, -5.00, fx_hjg_dc-8w.fxDelete the FS9.CFG section completly and copy & paste the above data in its place .... and save the edit ! 2. Copy & paste the following FSX specific entry to your ex FS9.CFG too .... [GPWS] max_warning_height = -1 //disable integral FSX GPWSAnd once again save the edit ! Do all of that and you should be right Mark C AKL/NZ

Thanks Mark. Done but not yet tried. I will give it a bash shortly. I have a problem with another game to contend with right now.
When I was downloading the aircraft, I put everything relating to that model in its own folder. Nerdy I know but it works. This is the Ship One N8008D as per your site.

No smoke but I am not really bothered about that. I fly all my aircraft fully loaded, maybe I should play with that a bit, it might make it a touch easier to get off the floor. Ya think?

Ya gotta have smoke aulde son !!!! You need to go back to the HJG DOWNLOADS page .... to the "EFFECTS" page in particular .... and download the "DC8 SMOKE EFFECTS" package .... then install all it's contents into the EFFECTS folder of FS. Our B707/C135, B727, CV880/CV990, & DC8 smoke effects then work automatically witrh these aircraft and on the basis of throttle axis. Do all this properly and here's what you should see .... in the case of DC8 SHIP ONE 1958 smoke effects .... If you going to fly the B707/C135 aircraft too then here's how they'll look with similar effects .... PLEASE NOTE .... these images represent the "HEAVY SMOKE EFFECTS" in action here .... simulating thrust augmentation per Water/Methanol injection. Later B707/720, B727, CV880/CV990, & DC8 models burned a lot more cleanly by comparison and that's reflected also in our smoke effects files for these aircraft too. With these "HEAVY SMOKE EFFECTS" you'll see only about 3 minutes of fireworks before they run out/expire .... whereas all the other standard smoke effects remain constant with our aircraft .... and depending on throttle axis as mentioned above.
