What does the "Stage Three" mean on the engines?

It means the engines have been Hush Kitted .... or otherwise acoustically treated .... in order to be able to operate/comply legally within the limitations of STAGE 3 noise regulations. On some Colombian aircraft (as depicted above) you'll see titles .... reading "ETAPA 3" .... which means precisely the same thing .... in Spanish ! Mark C AKL/NZ & BOG/CO

It does not seem very long ago when in the morning I would walk out on the apron to do the daily checks on our aircraft and I would wear eardefenders and the noise would still come through with the sound of the BAC 1-11 and 737-200's taking off, now these noise creaters are long gone and a triple seven or a 767 barely make a rumble in comparison!

Yeah but my ears dont hurt as much, but sadly the lack of variety now as a shame, mainly sacrebuses and boeing 737's I miss the old Viscount, 1-11 DC9 and the VC10 (we get the odd RAF one drop in)
