What does the yaw damper do in FS9, and what does it do with the HJG a/c ?? What do I miss if I never engage it? thanks, lr.

You might get your self in to a Yaw momvement of your aircraft ..
Google for Yaw damping, and you'll find quite a lot info on this particular aerodynamic "feature"

Being a former airline pilot, I suppose I'm pretty familiar with yaw dampers. I'm not using it in FS9. Does it actually do anything? lr.

It does work on occasion It first has to be enabled within the cfg file, and then it also can be tweaked within the air file. I've found it does stabilize yaw depending on the plane/FDE. In some models I've turned it off on approach just to give myself a bit more rudder authority. A very general rule of thumb for FDE's in FS is to set the rudder so that one gets about 15 degrees of yaw with full rudder input W/O the yaw damper. You can check its operation by full rudder deflection with and without the YD turned on. If it's working properly (at least for FS ;D ) with the YD on, rudder input should produce much less yaw. Not sure how I ended up with two signatures. Just came from an eye examine so I must be seeing double. Mike
