Scott has been so kind to share his way of installing HJG aircraft into FSX. MAKE SURE FILES ARE SHOWN INCLUSIVE THE EXTENSIONSSee how hereIn order to give everyone the opportunity to try out our models in FSX I hereby quote his method ...

Just a question on the previous method of installing into FSX where you change the fsx.cfg file and have a separate HJG folder in SimObjects.
Is there some different way of doing this on Windows XP? I was trying to help a friend with this install method and there is no fsx.cfg file, even after doing a file search.
If there is still a way to do this method in Windows XP we would like to know as this is the preferred method for us.

You may use any of the described methods as they are equally good, but with difference preferences.... they are also equally usable for both XP, VISTA and W7.
Btw. if you haven-t got a fsx.cfg, you either haven't got FSX installed, or you installation will not work, as this is one of the main files that FSX use. So you must have enabled "Hide folders" in some way or another, og your search haven't been broad enough.
Do a google search on "FSX.cfg path" and I'm sure you will be sorted in around 0.02 seconds...

I must be missing something critical.
I have followed the instructions as carefully as I can, have tried all three posted methods, checked and double-checked all my file extensions, and tried installing in both FSX SP2 and FSX-SE, and still I cannot get any HJG aircraft to appear.
I have tried several different aircraft - specifically the ones illustrated in the previous posts (707s). I tried editing all my files to look _exactly_ like the examples. I created the directory trees _exactly_ like in the "Another way to do it" post.
It seems there is something obvious that I'm doing wrong - my best guess is that somehow the paths aren't working on my system - or else the files I downloaded are simply not compatible with FSX-SE or FSX-SP2.
Also I do not have a separate "HJG" category showing in FSX.
Is there a log file that might give any clue? Any ideas what else to check if everything is exactly like the examples?

Is it possible that trying the various different methods would cause the aircraft to not appear? Are there files I should delete if they are copied in more than one place? As I say, I tried to make my directory structure look exactly like the examples.

I have also tried emulating the setup/organization of other non-HJG aircraft I successfully manually installed, e.g. putting the panels in the "panel" folder of the aircraft, etc. I also tried installing some other manual, non-HJG aircraft to make sure there wasn't something wrong with my FSX install. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that one of the HJG key files is simply not compatible with FSX-SE or FSX-SP2. Don't know how to figure out which one...

CW, I have been using FSX-SP2 and Acceleration for years and have never had a problem with loading any HJG aircraft and not showing up if I installed it properly, as long as you are not trying to use one with a panel that is not compatible with FSX like DC-9. I have discovered with my OS Vista, I have to actually right click on the zip file and extract to a temp folder as just double clicking on those files may not extract some files. However I believe you are doing something wrong. You must have the proper panel and link to it as the Dan's instructions tell us.
I suggest you start from scratch and try again. Make sure you remove any Hjg you already have. Falcon

First of all...cw5301...what Operating System are you using??
I am an FSX (SP1 and SP2)installed and I do not encounter any problems installing any of the HJG aircraft into FSX providing I follow all the given install instructions.
This is of the utmost importance. Missing even the slightest step or mis-spelling a word will result in a no show in the FSX aircraft menu.
What I have found from previous experience which leads to problems are in the following areas.
1. HJG aircraft base packs, textures and panel usually contain folders inside folders. So you must use the folder contained inside these folders.
2. Prior to installing the aircraft texture you must change the Aircraft.cfg as outlined in the instruction. Also change the Panel.cfg as per instructions. (delete FS9cfg and change FSX to Aircraft cfg.)
3. Install the proper Panel and Sound folders per instructions.
4. Make sure that your Panel is aliased properly. Any spelling mistakes here will cause a no show.
5. Make sure that the Direct X preview is unchecked in the FSX Settings section.

FSX is "PARTICULARLY SENSTIVE" in regard to its installation routines. "CW5301" .... Herman's pretty good at this sort stuff, so, be guided by him please It might also be helpful if you were to state "precisely" what aircraft base pack/s, texture/s, panel/s, and sound/s package/s you've been trying to install .... but for starters .... let's just stick with "a particular base pack and texture only" at this stage and whilst we try to get you up and running .... THEN .... work our way through the others afterward As Herman sais your experience could be generated from either one of the following "common scenarios" .... - a valid folder still contained within a/the containing folder from the original ZIP file. - failure to correctly activate the FSX specific AIR.FILE in cases where this is necessary - failure to activate the FSX specific PANEL.CFG FILE in cases where this is necessary. - failure to ensure the the default PANEL and SOUND folders inside any aircraft base pack are edited to read in accordance with default FSX PANEL and SOUND assidgnments as follows .... .... for the default PANEL folder ... [fltsim] alias=B737_800\panel .... and for the default PANEL folder ... [fltsim] alias=B737_800\sound By default .... all HJG aircraft base packs download with the above data stating FS2004 assignments .... as well as the FS2004 AIRCRAFT.CFG activated. The above are the most common slip-ups often inocently committed by people .... the end result of which is an FS no show/installations not being recognised and displayed by FS !!!! In addittion to this .... some base packs do require a MODEL name to be edited into the MODEL= data within the ADD TO AIRCRAFT/FLTSIM.XX component for the AIRCRAFT.CFG. This procedure is true in the case of the B727-200's only, but, "is" clearly directed within the installation instructions that accompany each of these particular base pack files. In the meantime .... HJG simulations (with the exception of the BAe 146/RJ100, CONCORDE, and some PANELS) are FSX portable .... but .... not FSX native. Mark C AKL/NZ

I figured it out... The initial entry in the aircraft.cfg file must be [fltsim.0] not [fltsim.00].
I was confused by the texture installation instructions that listed the entries as [fltsim.xx]. This is pretty confusing to someone who has not made the aircraft.cfg edits before.
After that all the aircraft appear correctly. Thanks to everyone for the help.
