Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this board but have been using HJG's excellent planes for some time.
I have installed the 727-100 in FSX, and it works as it should, however, I have a question - I cannot get the side and rear view bitmaps to display. I've made the edits to the panel.cfg file with the Fixed Window code blocks, but they don't display....is this an FSX issue? Please advise if/how these views can be displayed, as I'd really appreciate it! Thanks, Jim

I suspect it's just an FSX related issue .... unfortunately
I think I recall past commentary to the effect that the "side views" accompanying our panels may not be compatible with FSX .... essentially because each of these panels, we offer, has its foundation in FS2004.
Dan might like to elaborate on this later though.

Absolutely correct Mark. Sideviews as we know them from FS9 is no longer an option in FSX. Instead we use Camera definitions, but these are more aimed at the VC than the 2D flightdeck.
No side views in FSX ... if you want side views you should use FS9 instead.

Can somenoe take a look?

Sounds like something I could be looking into, by and by though.... I'll be back...sometime... good find.

I have been coding a version of this for my own side views on the HJG B717-200. I've got it mostly working based on Joao's code and now currently trying to figure out how to also capture the pan events from the joystick hat switch. I'll be happy to share the code here once I have it working properly... One thing to note, unlike FS9, in FSX the zoom and eyepoint of the 2D views cannot be defined individually per-direction, so assigning the rear view to actually look out over the wing is very tricky and probably much easier to do with FSX camera definitions - although then (I think) you have no way to have an overlay bitmap.

An update to the previous: The XML approach /does/ work, but I've found the memory usage of opening the extra panels is enough to cause an Out-of-Memory crash with complex scenery etc..!

Geoff,
Even if the extra views only contains a bitmap and no gauges?

Yes, even with no gauges. I suspect that it might work better on smaller displays - mine are rather large and in EyeFinity, so that might contribute... Positive point though is that the method /does/ work so perhaps worth testing further. Might be that my setup is weird or I'm doing something silly - the latter is often true in my gauge programming!!
